Oh boy-my Princeton interview is this weekend-and I haven't even practiced for it one little bit-the guy called today for this weekend and I am totally FREAKING OUT! I really could use some help...I have no idea what clothes I should wear. The interview's in a nearby library, but my family and I are REALLY poor and I don't have that many clothes so I have no idea what I should wear. I get the creeeeeps thinking about what questions this dude might ask 'cause unless I practice a whole lot I can't focus enough to answer-I have moderate-severe ADHD, you see, and I REALLY have trouble focusing on what someone else is saying. Will my ADHD influence my chances of getting into Princeton/making a good impression on the interviewer dude/do the interviews even matter? REALLY ANXIOUSS....please help...

Ok be calm. Wear nice dress pants (just plain black) and a nice button-up shirt. If you do not have these clothes check a local goodwill or borrow some clothes from a friend. Check out this link about ADHD in interviews -http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/9647.html - the same stuff basically applies. If you need to practice, ask a friend/family/member/ or person on a message board to help you. Just try to relax and keep calm. Be as polite and attentive as possible and take time to answer questions ( its ok to take a few seconds to come up with an answer). Making a good impression is important so try hard, don’t exaggerate, and keep calm.

Hi,
I recently had my Princeton interview and the man that interviewed me was very nice. He said that he was an advocate for me and wanted to present me in the best way as possible to Princeton. You don’t want to sound too rehearsed but just be yourself. The questions they ask are pretty general like “Tell me about yourself” and “What do you like to do?”

I didn’t do any research prior to my interview and ended up having a great time! My interviewer and I connected really well as we had similar education passions, and I’m sure you’ll do fine too. Just stay calm and try to listen as closely as possible. You can always ask for them to repeat the question if you get distracted. I’m sure your interviewer will be really nice I hope it goes really well for you!

Thanks, all. And esp. thanks to ivygirl1819 for the ADHD advice-it really helped.

Anyways, my interview started off strangely. I had to have him repeat his first two questions because the vivid colors of the wallpaper were distracting me. When I mentioned my ADHD, he became a lot more sympathetic. He told me he knew someone with ADHD, and after that, I was more at ease, less fidgety and more paying attention to what he said. My interview lasted like two hours…he did a lot of the talking when I asked him about his experiences at Princeton. Like you said, edmonton, he asked pretty general questions. He asked, “Tell me about yourself”, “Why Princeton”, and “What are some of your extracurriculars?” The last one took quite a bit of time, since I talked on and on about my coding hobbies and the website I run in concert with my friends.

Overall, it was a totally cool experience-I really enjoyed it!

PS: (Looking at my original post, I guess I was low on my medicine or something…)
