My understanding is the same as mommamt with regard to UMich BFA admissions. The academic screening is merely a screening and not an academic acceptance to UMich (you cannot attend UMich for another major, for example, just because you passed the academic screening to be invited to audition). Think of it like a DVD pre-screening that some schools have to be invited to audition. It simply means you are in consideration and nothing more. UMich likely screens to make sure nobody bothers to audition who would absolutely never be accepted academically to UMich. But when it comes to actual acceptances by the BFA program, there is the artistic audition and a review of the entire application materials at that juncture. Having the minimum academic profile to be able to audition for UMich is not the same as having the academic profile that will necessarily get you admitted with the very low acceptance rate. The academic screening is simply an initial “cut” of sorts, similar to a DVD pre-screening artistically at some other schools.

Can’t believe we went through all those auditions. Now I understand why I’m feeling so old this summmer!

@ Classicalbk, I know but isn’t it great not to have to worry about all that this summer! Such a relief!!!

classicalbk…thanks for asking…the dual degree is going great…just as planned so far
mommamt…thanks for your kind words…yes…hope to see you soon in AA :)

Good luck all :)

Soozie- the artisitic DVD prescreen is a good analolgy. Thanks for clearning that up (was I asleep in class last year?)

classicalbk, the whole BFA admissions process can be confusing and overwhelming because each school’s process differs quite a bit.

I also think it is a common misconception that the academic screening to be invited to audition at UMich is assumed to be equivalent to an academic acceptance, when it is not, because some schools do have a separate academic and artistic admissions process (ie., Elon, Indiana, Otterbein) and some have an “all in one” process (ie., NYU, Syracuse, CMU). Michigan has the latter, but it does have a screening to be invited to audition, likely to not waste time auditioning candidates who have zero chance of acceptance.
