I applied to SFSU for Fall 2011 and I received conditional acceptance with the requirement being: I fulfill the two prerequisite courses I have left for the Spring with a grade of C or better.

The problem is...I have been going through rough times (personally) lately which has prevented me from excelling in those two courses to even get a C. My mother is very ill and doesn't have long to live (I have documentation) and I have been taking care of her on top of being swamped from my full time job. I was hoping to re-take those same courses in the Summer and hopefully do much better, but the problem is, SFSU expects me to send my final transcripts by July 5th. Has anyone ever been in this same situation? What do you suggest? Am I screwed for Fall? Thanks for your feedback!

Not to be mean but seems like you’re screwed. I’m am sorry for your mother and you will be apart of my prayers. Just give it another go for next fall, if you’re determined. Or try to talk to admissions about your problem/situation. Good luck man

You will likely have your admission rescinded. You can certainly ask, but with the budget cuts, breaking even fairly inconsequential conditions has been grounds for rescinding an admission. Failing prerequisite courses is a fairly big problem in terms of keeping your conditional acceptance. Again, be sure to ask right away so you know where you stand.

If SFSU rescinds your admissions, I suggest that you concentrate on your home life right now and work on a plan to retake those classes and reapply for admissions for the following year.

Thanks for the replies! I sent admissions and a counselor an email explaining the situation and was approved for an extension so that I may retake the classes in the summer. I was told to provide the documentation and my transcripts at the end of the summer semester.

Whooooo…good news that’s good to hear good luck

Great news about the extension. Good luck with the classes and I wish the very best for your mother and you during this difficult time.
