Ok so it has taken me a long time in community college and I finally thought that I was ready to transfer. I applied to CSUDH and was conditionally admitted...not know what that was I called admissions and they said that it mean that I had to complete some classes within the first year of attendance. So I thought everything was fine. This caused me to think that I was in and after a couple of months I went in to meet with a counselor to get my classes. They told me I had to complete the golden 4 by the end of spring (which was 1 week away) or I would be denied. Talked to admissions and they said that they used to accept students like that but they can't anymore, finish the classes and reapply for spring. So I'm figuring out my cc schedule and today I get an official acceptance letter from the president. I also get the same day a rescinded letter. The official acceptance letter has no date and the rescinded as 6/8/10 as the date. It is friday and I will have to wait till Monday for someone to call me back. I am so confused and frustrated and this has delayed me from taking classes not to mention I have no idea what will happen with my financial aid. I am wondering if it is possible that the president accepted me and the admission lady denied me. My account through them online still looks as though I am accepted. I cannot add classes anymore but am wondering if this is just a block that can be removed as even my financial aid is still there. I'm just so confused and need some guidance. Why would they send me an official acceptance letter and then a rescinded one. Especially since I was conditionally accepted to begin with. Wouldn't they just send the rescinded one? PLEASE HELP!

The rule about the “Golden Four” for the CSUs has been applied quite strictly for the past year or so. Generally it has meant that the Math, English, Communication and Science (?) MUST be complete by the end of Spring. Summer session usually not an option. Yes, it is very routine for the CSUs to rescind if the Golden Four are not done by end of Spring.

You got a conditional acceptance. You got bad advice on the phone - your Golden 4 needed to be completed by the end of spring.

(Yes, in the past the Golden Four was overlooked a bit, but no more.)

On one front it is not confusing - when conditionally accepted one MUST finish the requirements. It is too bad that whomever you talked to on the phone was a yahoo who was not qualified to tell you exactly what conditions had to be met and by what date.

You should probably brace yourself for Plan B which is to complete your Golden Four asap – and reapply for transfer. You are not the first transfer student to get caught in this limbo – I have heard this and similar issues from several people I have met in person and read about more on this forum and in the news. Sorry! I hope you get better news but since you asked on the forum I am sharing what I know first hand from acquaintances in my real life.

Btw - letters likely crossed in the mail. A CSU accepts hundreds if not thousands of students – and status issues like being rescinded can lag in the system. Same with the updating of your online account – it literally can take a few MONTHS for a CSU online system to update things like pulling down a financial aid offer for a student who has been rescinded. Left hand not being coordinated with the right hand kind of things - different offices - different task lists and priorities. Which then means you get a pile of mail out of order.

Best of luck. And if I were you, I’d be seriously starting to prepare for Plan B.
