Help me calculate my grades?

Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out what my current grade is in Finance class. I fear I might not be getting a decent grade.

So here is the grading rubric:
3 tests, 30% each. Drop one lowest.
One final exam, also 30%, but can’t be dropped.
Quizzes = 10% (we have 3 so far, probably the last one).

Here’s my grade:
Test 1 = 89.47%
Test 2 = 84%
Quiz 1 = 100%
Quiz 2 = 100%
Quiz 3 = 0 :((

According to my estimation, I need to get at least higher than 91% in the last test and the final exam to be able to get an A in this class. Is this right? :open_mouth: Please help me with this.

Thank you!

You should be able to do this on an excel speadsheet.

Or on the back of an envelope. Your goal is earning the best grades you can on the three tests, final and quizzes. There are probably other elements in the final grade. Why would you try to earn points to get an A. The goal of education that contributes to future learning and work. Satisfaction comes with learning. For example, I dropped a mind-numbing class in political science with the highest grade in the class. Unless a class is required for your major , you may find more interesting ways of getting information. Please make the effort to learn Finance well enough to earn the grade you seek.

@whateverchan right now you have an 83.72 average.

Test #1 is an 89.47 x .30 = 26.841
Test #2 is an 84 x .30 = 25.2
quizzes are 100 + 100+ 0= 200/3= 66.667 x .10 = 6.67

So as it stands now you have 70% of you grades in and they are 26.841 + 25.2 + 6.67 = 58.711/70 = 83.87

Even if you get 100 on the final that is worth 30% that will only give you an 88.61

Oh wait! I’m confused. You said you can drop the lowest test score. Did you already take that into account when you listed your grades?

@Dungareedoll The OP hasn’t been back to CC since 5/4 so FWIW, I wouldn’t spent a lot of time on this one…
