Help me choose one! :)

So I’ve been really thinking about it and I’ve decided to change my major from exercise science to nutrition(want to be a dietitian now instead of Physician Assistant) and I have already applied to 14 schools and now it is too late to apply to anymore since most deadlines were Jan 15. I’m not sure which colleges have good nutrition programs so please help me out. Also, is becoming a dietitian a good profession or is it not worth it and I should stick to becoming a PA. Thanks

High point University
Rutgers Univeristy
SUNY Albany
SUNY Buffalo
Slippery Rock University
Stony Brook University
SUNY Binghamton
Virginia tech
Univeristy of Pitt Bradford
University of Scranton
Ithaca College
Sacred Heart University

I know I’m missing 2, I can’t remember them lol

you will get a good education at any of the schools you listed. I would choose
University of Scranton…but that does not mean it is best for you. you probably need to visit any school you seriously want to attend and once you get in to the schools you applied to cost and personal fit need to guide you. (IMO)

PA has more job openings and better salaries.
Whats instate for you?
What are your stats?

It’s premature to “choose” anything. Wait til you find out where you’ve been accepted and then come back.

Those schools are vastly different. What do you like about them?
Where are you from, what’s your budget?

Keep in mind that you may change your career goals yet again - and again. Picking a school for ‘the’ major is a mistake because many people change their minds, often more than once. Instead, look for the school with the best fit (which includes keeping you out of debt) and which will allow you to test your interests in several areas. A good career placement center is also important.

But as others have said, it’s too early to ask which school is best: Get in first, then come back. (You may have different goals entirely by April.)

Google is your friend. “best nutrition undergraduate programs” would be a good place to start.

Checking the websites of the schools where you have applied is another option. I would look broadly at health sciences as your major choice may shift over time but it sounds like health sciences is where you are heading.

Are you a PA or NYS resident?

(Stats are 1550/3.7, right?)

High point University => not worth it. Very expensive and known as a school for kids who care more about the country club lifestyle than about classes.
Rutgers Univeristy => only if you live in NJ, otherwise it’s about 40K, no financial aid
SUNY Albany => good for political science and business
SUNY Buffalo => good for science. May be a bit too competitive for you. Add SUNY Cortland from the SUNY website.
Slippery Rock University => probably a low match for you.
Stony Brook University => reach, unlikely
SUNY Binghamton => reach
Virginia tech => out of reach due to test scores
Univeristy of Pitt Bradford => why in the world Pitt Bradford and not Pitt itself?
University of Scranton => very good school
Ithaca College => very good school
Sacred Heart University => meh… bad financial aid. For that level, better attend Slippery Rock or Bloomsburg!
If you are a NYS resident, you should apply to SUNY Cortland, which is a match for your stats?
If you are a PA resident, apply to Penn State Main, with a branch campus such as Harrisburg or Altoona.

New York State resident and I did not get into Pitt and they put me in Pitt Bradford. I’ve got accepted so far to
High point
Slippery rock
Albany
Buffalo
Scranton
Rutgers

The other school I forgot to add was Adelphi and I got into there. Also isn’t it too late to apply? I thought mostly all schools needed applications in by Jan 15?

Lots of colleges have 2/1, 2/15 and 3/1 deadlines actually.
Among those, what are the costs if you add (tuition, fees, room, board) and subtract (grant, TAP, Pell)?
This would be your net cost.
DO NOT subtract any sort of loan (Stafford, PLUS, etc).

Please give your net cost for the following universities so that adults on the site can provide you with some value (cost/quality +ROI) estimates:
Slippery Rock
Albany
Buffalo
Scranton

Slippery rock ~ 20k
Albany ~ 22k
Buffalo ~ 23k
Scranton ~ 40k

I’m not sure what EFC means but my parents budget is about 24k. Also I have an 3.7 gpa and 1550 sat

Since you’re not a strong test taker (1550 SAT is average), you’re better off going for a career as a dietition. It’s unlikely you’d score high enough on the GRE to become a PA…or the MCAT for MD (mentioned in another thread).

Since your parents budget is about $24k (sounds like $2k per month), you should aim for Slippery Rock or the least expensive school…just in case your parents have an unexpected expense that prevents them from paying $24k per year.

Considering the large difference in level (both academics in general and peers) as well as funding, I’d go with SUNY Buffalo. It’s only slightly more expensive than Slippery Rock but would provide you with better resources. In addition, since you’re a NY resident and it’s a SUNY, you may get some need-based aid you wouldn’t get at Slippery Rock. It’s within budget but you could offer to work over the summer in order to offset the difference.

Thank you for the help and advice I really appreciate it
