Help Me Choose!!! Penn State (UP) or Providence College

If anyone could comment and help me decide which school to choose. I am currently deciding (and have to decide before May 1) between Penn State (University Park) and Providence College. I am aware that they both are very different, in pretty much every aspect. My dad went to PC and I have always loved it since I was a little girl, but I applied to Penn State, and I am now considering that school as well. I visited both many times and I just don’t know how to make a decision. My mom wants me to go to Penn State, but my dad is rooting for PC. I am just wondering what the reputation of each school might be, and if one would be better in the long run then the other. Football and sororities and big opportunities/ connections and Penn State would be really good… but the close knit community at PC is also something that I would like as well. I know that people always say you can make a big school small but you can’t make a small school big… I would really love to hear anyone’s opinions! I’m visiting them each one more time this month so that could also help me decide.

Also: At PC I would major in business (economics) and at Penn State I am currently accepted into the college of communications with an intended major of Public Relations… I know they are very different as well… but I am sort of unsure still and I didn’t want to go in undecided.

Also: They both would be around the same price (no financial aid/scholarships). PC would be 60K and year and Penn State around 50K a year. (yikes I know!)

Thanks!

Will the extra 10/k be a huge financial burden? Either way, penn state has an incredible amount of connections with huge amount of alumni. Overall, I believe it would be the better choice academically wise. However, if you really like pc and it is not to bad financially then go for it.

Dukedapuppy choosing between two college is a tough decision for anyone…you need to go with your gut feeling…if Penn State feels right to you…why add an extra 10k in the mix when you’ll be able to have a great time making life long connections…get involved in sororities that make last friendsships and not to mention it’s a great college! Good luck and keep us posted in your final decision!

I’d choose Penn State. Is 50k affordable, though?

newjerseygirl98…it’s about the average cost of college today…it’s manageable more so than 60k plus…Penn State is a great college and will give you more opportunities…good luck…did you deposit yet?

Are both affordable without loans in excess of the federal loans?
Have you visited (I assume you’ve visited Providence as a child, but have you attended an Admitted Student day?)
Sit in on two classes (Freshman English + one in your future major); eat in the cafeteria(not just for the food, but to see if students are social, friendly…); read the paper to see what issues concern the students, if they’re able to discuss them with a modicum of sophistication and respect; visit the library, see if you can do an overnight in a dorm (or see a dorm), just walk around campus. You’ll figure it out quickly, since they’re so different.
