I was at C10 last year. It’s actually kind of weird how colleges work. I didn’t really like C10 last year because I met a really great group of friends at Cowell. I was going to move to Cowell in October, but I was going to be in a whole different building than most of my Cowell friends. I realized how different that building was with my preconceived ideas of how wonderful I thought all of Cowell was.

Then a week later I start hanging out with friends from another building at C10 and I completely LOVED my dorm experience last year. Freshman year went from good to one of the best times of my life. So a lot of times it’s not even how the college fits, it’s actually how lucky you are with your floormates/building.

I agree with Midnight. No matter where we end up we will all have fun regardless and interact with people from other colleges. And if your looking to be around certain people or aspects or avoid certain people or aspects its easy to accomplish. In the end we are all Banana slugs and going to be having a great time at a good school. :)

@Midnight
Yeah, it really did seem like there was nothing going on there and that what I was kinda worried about. I was so set on it 'cuz of the feel of academics there, but when I visited the appearance didn’t look lively. Alright, I’ll think about it.

No intentions of drinking or doing drugs. (STRAIGHTEDGE4LYFOLOL)

Somewhat of a geek. I enjoy playing video games, reading/watching silly Japanese cartoons, and reading/watching sci-fi stuff, but I’m not absolutely obsessed with it.

I also like tinkering around with a computer, but I’m a computer science major anyway huff

Bay Area Sports fan, and that part of me gets pretty intense sometimes.

I don’t mind parties, but you probably won’t see me there since I’m not really into the whole party thing.

I listen to all kinds of music

I’m generally a laid back person and I enjoy just being lazy, but I can get serious about academics.

I enjoy having fun and I can be pretty nonsensical and absurd sometimes.

TALKING, I LIKE TALKING.

I would like to meet new people, though I’m somewhat shy. hur dur

I’m a bit overweight so I’d like there to be at least some distance to cover. Trying to get fit, yo.

GOSH I MADE A CHECKLIST, I’M SUCH A NERD.

Also, how hard is it to get a single room? 'Cause even though I like having friends, I do enjoy a bit of privacy too. :V

I’m stumped as to what college to choose! Any help?

I am:

-African-American
-female
-a published author, so I am very into the creative aspect of life
-i also play piano
-i like rock/indie/alternative, though I’m really interested in learning about all types of music
-want to experience parties and that lifestyle, though would like periods of silence during which I can focus on my studies
-am a gamer, and kind of a nerd sometimes
-can be both outgoing and shy
-am fine with drugs and alcohol (though nothing reeeaally hardcore), and would actually prefer a place where procuring them would be easier if I did decide to get more into that x]
-want to make sure there is usually good food around
-want to be kind of close to a gym
-am interested in being involved with clubs and such
-would love a loving family-type environment where I can make lifelong friends
-am stuck between an English w/ Creative Writing Emphasis and Health Sciences major (I either want to go balls-to-the-wall and put everything into my writing or go the safe route and have optometry be my backup profession; I’m thinking about double-majoring toward this end)
-want to be around people with open minds

I know this may be a lot of stuff, but any help is very welcome! ^^

Oh, and I look forward to meeting you all in the fall!! You all sound very nice :3

You sound like a perfect fit for Kresge. Kresge attracts all kinds of people, but gets more “arty” kids than other colleges. You’d have a good audience for your writing if you look for public feedback. Porter is a close second, only because I get the feeling that the communities in Porter aren’t as tightly knit as Kresge. The only downside to both of these is the distance from the gym.

I am:
-Asian
-Male
-Gamer, but still social :)(hoping to be more social and involved with the campus and clubs than in high school -.-)
-Wants a good balance of fun but also study
-No drugs or alchohol whatsoever >:(. But if it’s inevitable(least amount :))
-shy at first, outgoing somewhat if I feel comfortable
-Want to be near good food
-want a friendly environment (nice people around :D)
-Business Management Economic major
-want to be around people with open-mind also
-wants to be around asians, and other races also…(don’t want to be the token asian XD)
-Hoping near gym(Don’t want Freshmen 15 or 25 XD, however I guess walking a little farther for the gym won’t hurt)

I got a roomate already planned :). But we still hesitant on which college to choose (leaning towards 9 or 10) Which one fits us better or other suggestions?.

@Liesel Thanks for the suggestion. I heard that Porter has the best atmosphere as far as social goes. Is that true? It seems like since Kresge is all apartments it’d be less traditional than dorms and more separated. Also, I did want to have more of a traditional experience for my first year.

It’s a bit hard to say about Porter because the dynamics have changed since the construction. At least in the newest building the hallways are HUGE, and kind of…grey. I’d say there could easily be 50 people on a floor.

Even though Kresge is all apartments there still seems to be plenty of mingling, no less than in a normal dorm hall. Whenever I walk through Kresge, the students who live on the ground floor have their exterior doors (glass, connected to kitchen) open and people are socializing.

I haven’t spent a huge amount of time in either of these colleges so don’t take my word as the whole truth.

@rectangleshorts Well that’s a bummer. Well is there at least a way I can make sure I -don’t- get some creepy obnoxious jerk as a roommate or if I can find someone that I can get along with?

@Shennanigan: Just be careful filling out the roommate survey, when the time comes. And if your roommate is really a problem for you, you can request to move.

@Liesel I’ll try. :U
What kind of things do they have you list on the roommate survey and when is it supposed to be available?
When are the housing/dining plans available to be filled out anyway?

It’s basically a Never/Always choice for all the questions. Some examples are like "Do you usually wake up before 9am? Do you usually go to sleep before midnight? Do you smoke cigarettes? Do you follow university guidelines to rules such as drinking? Do you snore? Are you quiet? Do you like having people hanging out in your room?

Then you rate your choices for a single, double, triple, quad. Then select 7 day, 5 day, 55 meal, or 77 meal plans.

Ha, nope. There are halls that are targeted toward LGBTQ crowd (GLBTI Supportive Floor), and you can put up your preference about being in that or not. But that’s the most say you get in the matter.
