Playing around a bit. We had this painting under a bed, so I thought I would prop it up and see what happened. I like that it has a lot of green in it. There is another, large impressionist painting on the other side of the fireplace (which is to the left of the bar) and a third across the dining room from the left end of the long counter. The book on the second shelf is just for size - was thinking I could find a fun book of cocktail recipes with a cute (brigher) cover to set there. I felt as though having three “solid” items gave good balance?? Then I thought it might be good to put a round tray under the decanters. That is just a 16” pizza pan I used for sizing- I don’t have a tray.
Yay or nay? Just conceptually. I promise I won’t permanently use the pizza pan
Maybe this isn’t important to you…and it’s ok if it’s not cause it’s your home!….are you picking things that you love and have meaning - or are you picking jist to complete the “magazine” quality look?
I just see
Many of your comments being to match colors or match “something” - but wonder if you are giving consideration to those things that make a house a home - things hat have meaning or purpose for us??
I think your final choices should be what makes YOU happy and content!
I’m a bit of a stickler for placement. The center picture, I would move over a few inches to the right since there is the huge countertop to the right. Leave the tray with the decanters to the left bottom to balance the picture. Then play around with the glass in different configurations, groupings, not just in a row, big and bold groupings. Jmo, of course
Well, we bought the painting from one of our trips when we lived abroad. I am not super into, “meaningful,” things, however. I don’t want mactchy-mactchy, but I do want some cohesiveness. Does that make sense?
Although I have been following this interesting thread, I am just now responding for the first time.
I loved that you repurposed a painting from your travels.
Love the cocktail book idea.
Love the tray for the decanters - maybe move it a bit to the right so it is not directly under the cocktail book.
The long counter - I am in the camp of something long in the center, but I don’t think it has to cover the outlets. Having something there will detract from the outlets. Also, having something in the middle will keep you from making the counter a clutter catcher.
The photo frame likely requires electricity, so maybe move that in front of one of the outlets. p.s. I love my digital photo frame, where new pictures of the grandkids just appear!
I like the general idea of the painting but it seems a bit large for the space. After seeing how much light shines through, I would stay with colorful glass based piece on the top shelf. Ran into this; the artist has several different pieces if you have a favorite.
Instead of a cookbook, perhaps a colorful cocktail shaker?
Definitely like a tray.
Oh - just realized Nobu meant knobs on cabinet! Matching is fine but you could have some fun with glass knobs. Tons of shapes, sizes, and colors all over.
The painting is definitely an improvement as is the pizza tray! I can’t believe what a difference it makes. I have a Japanese lacquer tray that would be perfect. I also like the idea of a cocktail book. I think of all the suggestions for the long counter I liked the long wooden fruit bowls. They could have fresh or fake fruit. My cousin does felt fruit which has the advantage of not trying to look real.
I like that the painting brought color into the corner. Are you going to hang it on the wall or just prop it up as is? Personally, I’d hang the painting.
Love the tray/pizza pan! Not as big on the book. I love the colors in the painting but still would prefer something round, softer edges. I still love the round thing upthread.
Head out to your local Goodwill or whatever is nearby and gather up an assortment of candlesticks. You could make a really lovely display of candles (real or electronic).
I like that it is a repurposed piece so no new stuff being purchased. I thought you were trying it out for size and color. That said, I would use a glass or ceramic piece there. I would not put things on the wall above.
If the outlets bother you but you want to keep the counter clean, another color combination may help camouflage them better. This company seem to have lots of color choices. I’m thinking a burnished copper may blend in well, though matching colors on line can be difficult.
