I like that tray @Marilyn but I would not want to put a tray on a stand like that on my counter. It’s just my opinion.
More budget conscious; one for each outlet:
Haven’t read all the replies, so sorry if a repeat: My first inclination was that you needed a strong color on the wall, to balance all the neutrals.
Oh sure, that’s just one we had handy. It sits at the back of a shelf on our breakfront. An acrylic or wood stand would work better.
I love me a good succulent! Wasn’t sure whether succulents are odd near the beach?
One thought … once you get something/anything on that counter you will not focus on the outlets so much. But, yeah, to me, the outlets are what make the area look hotel-y.
I like the idea of two separate smaller succulent planters. Not as dense looking as one large one would be.
@UnsentDementor - yes, that one 48” long box would cover both outlets.
However, as @thumper1 suggests, I think two would be more versatile and a better idea.
As far as what @abasket wrote, I don’t think food spills would be an issue. The counters are 25 1/2” deep. But, I could move them elsewhere if necessary. Much easier to do with two than one that is four feet long!
@kjofkw - one of my friends suggested painting the wall behind the bar. I’m not sure I’m up for that - lol.
I appreciate @Marilyn thinking of my budget!! Those are even skinnier! However, I think determining the right scale is important. Since the counter is 10’ long, I think they (assuming I go with this and acquire two) need to be fairly long. That’s why I was drawn to the large one - the scale. I’m going to do some measuring and see what I think. I don’t have to order from that particular etsy person (though she has great reviews), but she does do all different sizes. Two at 24” is only slightly more $$ than one at 48”. If I got two at 24” I could turn one perpendicular on the counter and butt it up next to the appliance garage cabinet and put the other one on my table if I were serving off there.
Thanks for sticking with me, gang!! You have no idea how helpful it has been to work through so many different thoughts and ideas!
I know you like your counters bare, but I’m with others who think a pop of color or just something to brighten them up, that part of the room looks awfully dark even with the windows right there ( I love your shutters btw). How about some type of lighter neutral runner with maybe a thin stripe of color perhaps to match your green chairs. Then a green plant in the corner grouped with perhaps a couple of succulents might look nice.
Your aesthetic is so unlike mine! I love very bold colors!
Maybe something similar to this.
Lol, this is what would be going on my 10 foot long counter!
We realize in threads like these that decorating style matters in keeping a homeowner happy!
I am a fan of pops of color - in fact I like a fair bit of color. BUT I am not a fan of any cloth table coverings - not a runner. Not a tablecloth of any sort. Not even placemats.
Yep! When I was a child I used to think that our house should have knickknacks like all my friends’ houses. Now that I’m an adult living in a house that accumulates dust like no other I’ve ever lived in, I’m thinking my mother had the right idea! Although I love color, and do like textiles in my home, I’m finding myself becoming more anti-knickknack and more Spartan by the day!
We all have different tastes and living environments that make us feel most comfortable.
You mentioned covering the outlets, which is what I’d want to do (it’s a quirk of mine.) If you’re at all interested in something beachy, there’s a company in St. Augustine that may have something you’d like. It’s name is Atlantic Coral Enterprises. When I first saw their website years ago, I thought it was strictly wholesale but it isn’t. After losing most of my collection from the '60s and '70s during a move, I was so happy to find this store.
ACE sells some amazing large shells. One would hide an outlet. I had some clear acrylic stands with three upright prongs that held some of my shells, but the two largest didn’t need a holder or stand.

The company also sells sea biscuits, which I love. They look a bit like starfish in the middle but are puffy and creamy white. I had a dozen piled on a tray.

Any thoughts on using a ceramic piece instead of glass in my newly created, “hole,” on my top glass shelf?? The colors in this tie in very nicely with the mosaic backsplash I have. Just not sure if that would be too heavy looking among all that glass. I’m also thinking that I can’t go super tall or it will look disproportionate to the adjacent stemware, so this seems like a good height at 12.5”
I think the opaqueness will not allow the light to diffuse down to the lower pieces; that is why I would prefer a clear colored glass object.
I think a photo or very small tapestry (or silk flowers on wicker base) might look nice on that upper cabinet side panel.
A ceramic bowl would be perfect on the table but somewhat top heavy for the high shelf. I agree that something with glass that would bounce and refract the light might work better there.
Since you like conch shells
Some other items, just to get an idea:
I love the raku bowl. It wouldn’t bother me that it’s opaque, but that’s partly because I’m not such a fan of all the clear glass. However no one should go to me for decorating advice unless they don’t mind eclectic and cluttered. I keep wanting to put something like this on your top shelf: Makonde African Abstract Carved Wood Shetani Sculpture For Sale at 1stDibs | makonde shetani, makonde sculptures, makonde art
Love the round vase!
Or a group of these?
