So my #1 college choice was UIUC.... But I might not be able to afford it.. B/c their out-of-state tuition is just something I can't afford and seems like uiuc doesn't give out lots of financial aid options for out-of-staters like other colleges would, so looking elsewhere!
I'm looking for a college with the same kind of reputation as UIUC, if not better. No ivies. Preferably east/central US. Gives good financial aid.
I want to major in biology, so a school that has a nice biology program would be nice. I want to attend a college that's got a safe environment, and preferably one that's close or in a city, but this preference really doesn't matter as long as there's enough stuff to do outside the school campus n not too boring.
Just any out-of-state colleges you think are worth the price for "out-of-state" tuition. I don't want to say what state I'm in.. I know that's something you guys need to know so you could know what's out- of-state for me, but I highly doubt anyone's going to comment on this post and recommend my in-state public universities haha.

Well, what are your stats like? GPA, SAT/ACT, race/ethnicity, and quality of ECs, ahah.

Oops forgot to give additional info such as stats, EC’s, etc.
Rising senior
Unweighted gpa: 3.8
EC’s: tennis, cheerleading, piano, violin
Volunteer work: volunteering at a hospital and library
ACT: taken once- got a 27. Taking again aiming for a 30+
no SAT
-taking 3 sat subject tests in the fall.
-parents make >$100,000
Classes I’m taking senior year: 4 dual enrollment class and 2 APs
That’s all the info I could think of right now. If you have more questions feel free to ask!

Oh, and i am Asian-american:)

How about Geneseo and Bing (if you live in NY), UVA, CMU or UVA?

How about Geneseo and Bing (if you live in NY), UVA or CMU or NW (reach)?

Hmm… Tufts, JHU, CMU, Northwestern, and Brandeis all seem like good reaches, and University of Rochester seems like a good match. Ohio State would be a safety, though I don’t know if it’d be affordable… University of Connecticut would be a match if you’re in-state, as it’d be affordable.

U Rochester isn’t really a match with an ACT of 27. Their mid-range ACT is 28 - 32 and last year they got more selective than previous years.

You’ve mentioned before that your parents earn over $100k per year, but they WON’T contribute for your college.

If that’s still the case (or they won’t contribute their EFC), then many of these schools won’t work because they will be expected to pay AT LEAST their EFC.

Is the reason your parents won’t pay much/anything because you qualify for HOPE?

@mom2collegekids I think you misread what I message you then… because I said my parents make less than $100,000…

You posted in your other thread…

* Parents make >100,000 a year. *

Maybe you’re not familiar with the “more than” sign, but that’s what you posted.

Lol well I thought that meant less than… Awk
