nyu is pretty preppy too

Pepperdine

i can tell you right now that NYU isnt what hes looking for. Many urban-campus schools like BU and NYU are too diverse to be labelled preppy. Im actually surprised that BU is even on his list.

Conn and Trinity definitely aren't safeties for you, though they are matches. I think you'd like Trinity in particular if you want a moderate student body.

You might also want to look at Middlebury, Dickinson, Colby, Miami, Notre Dame, USC, Hamilton, Colgate, and maybe Union.

Denison University is a good match/safety to consider. I agree with Miami of Ohio, USC, Notre Dame, Pepperdine, and University of San Diego.

I don't know which Trinity you meant, but I think both are good to consider--the one in Connecticut and the one in San Antonio.

Vanderbilt is also my first choice school! It'd be neat if we ended up going together :)

U of R and UVA are serious popped-collar schools, but you don't seem to be considering those...Hapden-Sidney's "sister school" would be Longwood...it's not all girls but the ones there sure do obsess over Hampden-Sidney guys. The guys I know at H-S are super preppy, and pretty full of themselves. Just as a side note...I hate Farmville (where Longwood is), but have never been to Danville or wherever it is H-S is but if its like Longwood it has one road (Main Street) and is...well, I wouldn't want to go to school there.

Um- i have you looked at any other DC schools? American U and George Washington U sound like good matches for you. I found them to be conservative and "preppy" and they both have fantastic academics!

AU is a lot of things, but conservative and preppy?!!

Duke is a great choice but would add Holy Cross- preppy school with lower Division 1 lacrosse program and great school spirit. Also might look at William & Mary. BU leans liberal and not much school spirit, BC does not have varsity lacrosse, and Northeastern is not preppy.

Dude, you seriously sound a ton like me...I'm considering six of those schools and I have similar stats and academic interests.

I live in Delaware and I can assure you that you would love UD. It's such a Beer-Guzzling, A&F, lax players haven. If I didn't live 10-20 minutes away from campus, I'd consider it much more heavily, but come on man, Vandy will let you in ED.

And then you'll go there cause it's binding. Vanderbilt is sweet. I'm applying there too.

Are you from the south?

Don't forget TCU, SMU, and Baylor.

a lot of those schools are cutthroat. and are you going to apply to all of those?

not applying to all, its just a list to get me started

another one is Amherst College, about the same selectivity as Williams

is amherst extremely liberal?

Amherst and Williams have a majority of liberal students, but not to the extent as do Swarthmore and Wesleyan, which better fit the extreme label. A non-liberal person could fit in well at Amherst and Williams, but not so likely at Swarthmore and Wesleyan.

Uh, Penn is NOT conservative.

Are you really applying to 28 colleges?

Just have to second (or third, or maybe fourth by now) what other people have said, and recommend UVA as a preppy school.
Admittedly, I read this thread as a lark since I thought it hilarious that someone would actually ask for a list of "preppy schools" in all seriousness.
But I've grown up in Charlottesville (UVA college town) and I even applied to UVA (only to humor my parents), and let me tell you, it was way to preppy for me to have ever seriously considered enrolling there.
So, have a nice preppy education! And thanks for giving me a laugh tonight! ;o)

namaste -- this is my temporary list. I am narrowing down schools and will probably apply to around 10-14.

zombiequeen -- i don't think its that unreasonable to search for schools where I would feel most comfortable. I'm sure "artsy" type kids do the same thing. Finding a good fit is essential if you are going to be happy for four years.

To everyone else, thanks for your good advice and helpful responses.

orangeisland -- I don't think it's unreasonable, I just think it's hilarious.
