Help me!!!! Georgia Tech vs Boston University

Hi everyone. I was recently accepted to BU with $20,000 scholarship and Georgia Tech, so the amount I have to pay is pretty similar for both schools. I am really interested in majoring in comp. engineering. I am currently trying to compare the two. Honestly, I really love going to college in BOSTON, but at the same time, I am worried about my future career. As you probably know, Georgia Tech has one of the highest ranked engineering programs of the nation, but I really don’t know if I like the vibe of the South ( I’m from PA by the way). To a Northern kid like me, Boston is a better city, but I want to hear more about its engineering program. Do engineering grads get a job right out of college? What opportunities (research, academic,…) and resources are available at Tech? If you have a reason to prevent me from going to Tech and going to Georgia Tech instead, please post. I really want to here opinions from different people.

Secondly, I really want to know about the city. I want to get a life in college, like many people. Is the city gay-friendly, like New York? I am not openly gay but I hate the feeling when I go to a gay place in North Carolina and some conservative guys really discriminate against me. I understand that Atlanta is a huge city, but is it, in anyway, too conservative?

any thoughts?

I’m currently studying in PA. I did not apply to BU since I don’t fancy the school that much. I got into GaTech’s ECE for Computer Engineering. In my opinion, both school is a great school. However, Ga Tech is more prestigious if you want to go into Computer Engineering. I doubt if BU is any good in that field. They have good reputation about Biomed but I doubt they are good in any other engineering field. I don’t really like BU since they scatter around Boston rather than a packed campus.

In any case, good luck with your choice.

Oh my gosh! Atlanta is such a fun and vibrant city with much to do and huge diversity. You would in mo way be out of place there. Just be prepared for the rigor of the school but Georgia Tech grads get opportunities.

As for being gay-friendly:

Advocate.com, a national news and information service covering the gay community, ranks Atlanta as the fifth most LGBT-friendly city in the country for 2014, a jump from two consecutive years in ninth place. Only No. 1 Washington, D.C., No. 2 Pasadena, Calif.; No. 3 Seattle and No. 4 Cambridge, Mass., are friendlier.

dude! We have the Atlanta Pride fest every year, which is a HUGE event in the city, and many LGBT resources. http://lgbtqia.gatech.edu/ is the website to check out. Tech (besides emory) is probably the most tolerant school in the state due to its sheer diversity and everything.
