Nothing amazing. Things to note include a pending patent, president/founder of Computer Club, Ranked top 5% of new jersey science league for first year physics students.

I have had some serious family problems which i plan to write about- and im not some melodramatic kid whining about a divorce or something, im talking about some legitimate long term serious problems.

Ideally i'd like to double major in physics/philosophy, but if that doesnt work out then just physics.
I'd like an intellectual atmoshpere(strong physics department) yet a typical party-hard college experience(not nearly as important as everything else but would be a nice touch)
Im interested in working on wallstreet or going for a PhD. I will definately transfer into a better school if i cant get into any colleges selective enough for ibanks out of highschool due to my grades.

Im very concerned about getting accepted to at least a few colleges. My rank is making me nervous about getting rejected everywhere and going to Rutgers. I think it would be smart to get rid of the colleges i have no chance of getting into(except my dream uchicago).

What do you think i should take off my list?

Ideally, all of the schools are great choices, but academically, are they all what you're looking for:

*Univeristy of Michigan (reach)
*University of Chicago (reach)
*Carnegie Mellon (reach)

*Emory University (match/reach)
*Brandeis University (match)
*Carleton College(match)
*Mount Holyoke (match)
*Reed (match)
Haverford College (match)
Kenyon College (match)
Oberlin College (match)

Trinity College (match/safety)
*Case Western (match/safety)
*Franklin & Marshall (safety)
*Rutgers (safety)

First thing that comes to mind is the countless liberal arts schools, for your fits:

Carleton, Mount Holyoke & Reed, excellent

Haverford, Oberlin and Trinity, fine

Kenyon...why Kenyon, maybe I'm missing something, but Kenyon doesn't strike me as what you're looking for.

Off the remaining six liberal arts schools on your list, I suggest you choose three of them, I'd advise to keep Carleton, Mount Holyoke & Reed, but it's your decision.

That should leave ou with 11 schools, from their you can whittle down to what you think is a good number.

reed..uchicago..haverford..but no swarthmore?? i know you wanted to lose schools, not add them, but i think you should def take a closer look at swat.

have you visited these schools yet? if i were you i would decide whether i wanted liberal arts or a university, and then it would be much easier to get rid of schools that dont fit

If you are talking physics or any hard sciences, Kenyon is the most unmatched out of your seven liberal arts school, the math & phsyics departments are considerably small compared to their other offerings, and if you looking for double majoring between the two, there are better offering among between the two.

Kenyon is known for English, Drama, Art, Dance, History...of all on your list, it's the most obvious to remove.

I'm sort off getting the feeling that you choose some of these schools b/c they looked pretty and you heard they were good. You need to reallly look into the departments you're interested in each school and decide if it meets your expectations.

The social scene is pretty much good at all your schools, if you love University of Chicago, then you'll love the social scene more at most schools in the country, Haverford is the friendliest place on earth and Oberlin and F&M party hard, so we can establish that all of your schools have good social scenes, a little less at UofChicago and Carnigie.

I love uchicago because im trying to choose some reasonable reaches. It wouldnt make sense for me to dream of Harvard or Yale. Same with CMU. I know they have a lacking social life but the quality of the academics plus the reputation make up for it in my mind.

If i go to a less selective school i would like a better social scene.

Im surprised that you think Haverford and Carleton are matches for me. Maybe im just getting paranoid about my terrible rank.

Although test scores are good, the class rank (30%) is a bit low for many of the schools previously noted as matches. I'd think Case, Brandeis, Carleton, Haverford, and Oberlin would be more like reaches or, at best, matchy reaches. It's always a red flag when test scores are higher than GPA...makes adcoms suspicious that this is a smart but unmotivated student. Now, if 30% of your class has a GPA of 4.0 it's a different story.

Some other suggestions: RPI (NY), U of Rochester (NY), WPI (MA), Wake Forest (NC), Dickinson (PA), Georgetown (DC), Colorado Boulder, Penn State, Pitt, Mich State
