Hello! I am a high school junior and I’m trying to figure out a list of colleges by the beginning of summer break.
I am Ethiopian American and I live in Ohio, I’m also graduating high school at 16 due to skipping grades and starting school early. Both of my parents were born in Ethiopia, but I wont be the first to go to college. There are 6 people in my household and we make around 75-100k, I’m not exactly sure about the amount.
Stats:
GPA: 3.6 unweighted / 3.7 weighted
SAT: 1260 (580 M / 680 RW)
ACT: 26 (26 M/ 26 E/ 26 S/ 24 R)
AP: My school has 8 AP classes 2 of which are art oriented, this year I am taking AP Psych and AP Gov, and took the psych, us gov, and comp gov tests, and I feel confident about all of them. Senior year I’m taking APUSH and AP Lit, as well as courses at Columbus State and OSU
Extracurriculars:
Student Council(1 year)
Model UN (1 year)
National Honor Society (1 year)
Key Club (Committee Chair, Lt. Governor)
I was originally interested in applying to Wash U early decision, but now i’m not that confident in my chances of admission. I intend to major in Political Science, if that changes it’ll probably be a social science still. I need help looking for colleges that are diverse and are either in or near large/small cities. I don’t want to be more than an 8 hour drive from Columbus, OH, but I’m willing to be flexible in terms of distance. I also want to know what I should improve on by application time. Here are some schools I’ve been considering:
Reaches: Emory, Lehigh
Matches: OSU, Syracuse, Case Western
Safeties: Miami of Ohio, but haven’t looked into safeties that much
Thank you!
