Help me pick a college please!!!

Hello! I’ve posted on here before, but now the enrollment deadline is so close and I can’t seem to decide between my two top schools.

Marist College ranks itself on its website as having the #1 program in the country for my major, Digital Media. I’ve read it is regarded highly academically and a great value school for the money. When I visited the school I loved it, however they did not discuss my major at the Accepted Students Day presentation as much as I’d hoped. I emailed the head professor to inquire more information about the courses, internships, experiences, etc. of the program’s students, but he has not yet replied. My current understanding, however, is that my studies there would be quite broad and general. With the merit scholarship they offered me ($15k annually), grant ($2500 annually), and Federal Work-Study ($3k annually), it would be about $29,500 a year to attend (not including unsubsidized/subsidized loans which equal $5,500 annually). My parents would most likely be paying $10-15k, and the rest I would take out in private loans.

Quinnipiac University is not ranked as strongly academically, however the presentation for my major was very thorough, honest, and specifically what I was looking for in terms of what I’d like to study. The opportunities and career paths described were options I would love to have as possibilities. However, I did not like many other aspects of the school as much as Marist’s. A major reason I must consider it, however, is because of the accelerated 3+1 program they have offered me; this guarantees me locked tuition, a $25,000 scholarship in my graduate year and both an undergraduate and masters degree in only four years - I’m not sure if it would be foolish to pass that up! In addition, they awarded me a merit scholarship of $25,000 annually and $2000 annually in Federal Work-Study. It would cost about $33,970 to attend. Again, my parents would pay $10-15k and I would take out the rest in private loans.

Personally, I think I can see myself better fitting in and being happy at Marist. Based upon my visits, I felt a much more friendly, open vibe there. However, I want to make the best choice both financially and career-wise in the long run. If anyone could offer any insight on this decision I’d appreciate it so much!

Thanks in advance!!

Sounds to me like you really like Marist, so go to Marist. It is cheaper too. And Marist is more selective thian Quinnipiac which I think means something. However…did you consider the state schools? You are taking out a lot of loans, so I don’t know if it is worth it. Private schools are no better than state schools, they are just in general smaller, so if you like the small liberal arts college, and you are comfortable at Marist, go for Marist. The best decision is what you end of making of it.

There’s your answer. If you feel happy and like you fit in, you’ll do better in school and get the most out of it. Marist.
