Hey guys, just wanted to see everyone's comments to see if I have a chance for the following undergrad business programs: UMich Ross (Preferred Admissions), U Penn Wharton (I don't have a chance, just applying...who knows), NYU Stern, and Cornell

GPA: 4.0 UW (my school doesn't have a weighted GPA)
1st Generation American
--this year i've taken: accelerated physics, ap bio, ap eng lit, french 3, medical skills terminology and emergency response, honors precalculus, the old west
--next year: ap psych, ap chem, ap calc bc, world religions, french 4 (AP at my school), trying to get into micro/macro econ via online courses, some other courses that I can't remember...
ACT: 30 (32 Math, 32 Reading, 30 English, 26 Science )
AP Bio Score: 5
AP Lit: 3

extracurriculars:
founder of youth group, secretary (9/10)
mun member (9)
mun secretary (10)
mun sec-gen (11/12--i've been re-elected for next year)
humanitarian club
student government
volunteer at a nearby hospital starting this year (will have about 70 hours by September)
math club
michigan math league
muslim student association
will join the french club
national honor society (10/11)
NHS treasurer (will be for 12th grade)
finally: Nine4Peace. made up of nine kids (duh...) we talked to michigan senators and got a bill introduced into the michigan legislature to help stop divestment to sudan (AND IT PASSED UNANIMOUSLY!!). we've also organized rallies to raise awareness about Darfur.

I've gotten around 12 awards from school for high grades.
One of my family friends got into NYU Stern and UMich Preferred Admissions with a 29 on his ACT and not as much extracurriculars...

All of the business schools that you are applying to are excellent, and there is competition even from around the world to go to them, so it is a lot tougher than you think. But Congrats, you have a stacked GPA, not as good ACT.
Ross: Match
Wharton: VERY high reach
Stern: Match
Cornell( I hate)- reach

Agree with TranceGod...you have a laundry list of ECs which doesn't look good to colleges(need to show some commitment to ECs). Nine4Peace looks good, though.

I can see some commitment to MUN work, so that's def. a plus. Still, you should participate in various Worldwide MUN's.. like Harvard or Yale or THIMUN to get some real attention.

Well how can you be so sure of a business career if you haven't taken a single course in AP economics?
Ross, Stern is a good match. Cornell I'd say a match if you increase your ACT score.

that's a good question. i've taken an econ class at my school, and an intro to bus. class at my school and i help out in my dad's private practice. all of this stuff has really made me interested in the business world. I am trying to take ap econ next year either in dual enrollment or online course, since my school does not offer it.

hey thanks for the chance btw
i think u are a good match for stern and umich and probably for cornel as well
wharton is a crapshoot as always but still
best of luck
oh u wanna strengthen the act scores especially the sci

laundry list? but a broad approach to life seems like a good thing to me...
I mean you try everything... you've experienced a lot... and heck its just high school does it have to be amazingly unique or professional? This laundry list could have a lot hidden within

If you work on your science section, that'll pull your ACT score up a lot, which would help you a significant amount.

If you've already taken all the econ-related classes offered at your school, then colleges will know that. It'll look better if you can get into the online class, of course, but I don't think it would harm you that much if you didn't.

Your ECs are pretty good. Nine4Peace looks excellent.:)

UMich - match
Stern - match
Wharton - reach

Great Great Great ECs. Really stupendous. If you're applying to business schools maybe you want to have more business oriented ECs. You have math ECs and political ECs which do relate to business, so that's good, but if you had something a little more directly related that'd be even better. Best of Luck.

rdave, i'm going to retake my SAT IIs (just the Math II and French) and I will try to retake my ACT. why? you don't think those scores are good enough? I just want your opinion, thanks!

I was just wondering...most of the threads I have read at this point say that the people are planning to retake the test in the fall. I'm in a similar situation as you, but my superscore is a 30 (29 composite). I'm also really interested in Penn (CAS, not Wharton), so I was just wondering what you were planning to do!

anyone else? thanks so much guys! oh and btw (if anyone else is going to chance me), I have about 60 hours of community service completed and should finish another 70 by september...

i assume you live in michigan, so UMich + ross i think should be fine. i agree with you that ED to Wharton would help.. since 50% if their freshman are admitted from ED (sucks)..

so you're completely just not going to take SATs?

I think you have excellent chances to most of your choices. The senators thing is really impressive, imo. Are you going to mention that in an essay? It seems like it would be an amazing experience to have it come to completion like that.
Best of luck.

I think u have great chances at Stern and Ross and even Cornell. Wharton, however, is a toss up for everyone;you are qualified but now u just need some luck one your side. But dont worry ull get into a great school, nevertheless.
