Okay, I am debating joining between Boston College and University of Michigan. Boston College will cost me about $60,000 less since i am oos for UMICH. I am wondering which college do you guys think will land me a better job in financial field? People tell me since Boston college is in Boston, the alumni network is so great that I can get jobs at Fidelity and such. Others tell me UMICH will land me jobs at chicago and such. any thoughts?

Will you be at Ross? If so, the job opps out of Ross will be infinitely better than those from BC. Ross is one of the best programs in the nation and that is an opportunity you shouldn't pass up.

I will apply to Ross after my freshman year. However, I cannot be 100% sure that I will make the school. However according to statistics about 50% are accepted

How hard is to get a 3.7 GPA in UMICH, as that will help a lot

Mich is a better program--you'll be saving considerably more $$. However, much more opportunity in BC--metropolitan area closer; jobs & internships, etc. Stop worrying about the name and focus on what you can do in each school. It also depends where you want to go in business. Just do fine wherever you go--GPA, internships, etc. for a job. Don't forget about the fun in college and the fit for yourself, too.

UMICH is more expensive for me, not Boston College

with regards to line909's comment, that is absolutely not true. UMich (specifically Ross) will definitely give you more job opportunities. You can always major in econ at UMich and try to transfer into Ross. If you can't, then you'll still be at a very good school (arguably still much better than bc) and you will still have access to all of the recruiters that are there for Ross. UMich is definitely the better choice, you just have to weigh in how much the money matters. I would say go to UMich, but I don't know what your family's financial situation is.

Lets say that I will be paying for everything. Not my family. I think Michigan would be better too in that situation.

gonsenheim, very compelling reasons for your argument. Not taking into consideration Boston is ridiculous. And how do you know that Mich will exactly give you more job opportunities?

because Ross attracts more (not to mention better) recruiters.

Both schools have the same recruiters.

again, bollocks. They don't have the same recruiters and the recruiters that may be the same at both schools aren't going there for the same positions.

but thats fine, if you think BC will offer the same or better job opps then go there. As I'm sure any sane person will tell you, Ross > BC and UMich > BC. If you can afford it, I would say go to UMich. Line's opinion is different (albeit poor and lacking merit).

the only problem is that UMICH, I am not guaranteed to enter business school. however if I major in econ/stat, will I still get a good business job even though I did not get into Ross.

and you will still have access to all of the recruiters that recruit at Ross.
