University of Southern California (Too big of reach? however would be #1 )

UC Irvine (UC! great business program - cheap - slight reach)

UC Davis (No business program, however they have an economics / management which could work, however itd be more math / economics and less business, whicih doesnt appeal to me.. UC! cheap - academic environment - good school - slight reach)

UC Santa Barbara (No business but again bus econ sort of thing which might work, but would prefer regular business by a lot - great socially - great location - great school! UC! cheap - slight reach)

Santa Clara University (great business! jesuit! nice location. good jobs afterwards - silicon vally. - slight teach - expensive)

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (cheap - great business program - awesome campus / location - slight reach)

University of Miami (great business program - great location - id be excited / but a little scared about going all the way to florida - great campus - awesome place - expensive?)

University of San Diego (match - san diego! expensive! great location! everyone who goes there has loved it! beautiful campus - great business programs - catholic - which has its plusses and minuses)

UC Santa Cruz (No business however once again a biz econ program which is jsut ehh.. but UC, cheap, great location, probably the best UC that I'd be for sure in.)

Chapman University (good bus program / good location - expensive? match?)

Loyola Marymount University (visisted and really liked it.. decent business program gorgeous campus - nice kids - 40 min from home - i can see myself here - match / safety expensive?)

San Diego State University (nice financial safety - great business program - great socially - san diego! weather! - cheap!)

my parrents can afford a private education - and i heard its a good year for that with the economy and stuff.. but always cheaper is better. and since my gpa is jsut mehh.. and SATs and EC are good. not all the reccomended classes and a couple Cs, i decided to apply to a variety of places to see where my unique combo could get me in..)

so shouldi apply to all 12?? narrow some?? know any other colleges that meet my criteria?
any advice?? thanks!!

also how do the biz/econ majors compare to just plain business majors??

anyone…???

Well, obviously biz/econ is better than plain biz… never heard of an extra major hurting anybody.

But of course, if you go into econ simply expecting something to supplement your business your education, you’ll probably hate it.

SCU sounds perfect for you! Good luck with the admissions process!

Biz Econ is an economics major with accounting classes.

thanks both of u!

well i think biz / econ is basically econ with a couple accounting classes… it isn’t two seperate majors… maybe im mistaken, dontk now much about it, partially why im asking abou it!

thanks. yeah SCU is one of my top choices!

I’am one who needs more private universities on my list, and one that I find myself to like a lot is University of Southern California, I think you should keep it on your list… it’s a great schoo.

k thanks. any other feedback?

i’ve heard people with much higher gpas / sats / class president / etc… etc… got rejected… i do have alumni… im still not sure. i probably will apply. any more feedback??

Saint Mary’s of California is a rather unheard of private college here in Calif, but one that could be on your list. RARELY does it get brought up here. It is small but residential. Known in business. Catholic, but not too much. I would replace Davis with it. Look into it.

Rollins College in Florida may fit you as well. I’m no expert on it.

Be cautious about choosing colleges in Calif if you aren’t going to grad school (elsewhere). The state has a lot of problems. It is very expensive to live in. A couple I’m friends with relocated from their dream home in Ohio to a house much lousier (same price) out here for job reasons. Many people cannot speak english. Public grade schools for your children here are among the worst in the US. Southern Calif is overcrowded with unneeded traffic and has poor air quality. The list goes on.

PS: lot of the privates appear expensive and are (Santa Clara) but others are really good with aid (Chapman).

KK thanks nov9th,

Saint Marys might be nice, I’ll look into it.

I’ve actually heard of Rollins. I’ll look into it too.

kk Thanks.

I’ll take all that into consideration. Thanks a bunch!! Any more feedback from anyone?

how about university of Arizona or Arizona state??? both have pretty good business program (esp. arizona state). I would exclude Miami and chapman from the list…not worth it.

I think you have a solid list of realistic safeties, matches, and a good reach school. To be honest USC is very stats based when it comes to admissions and your GPA will probably hurt you, but you have a ton of matches and safeties so why not go for it.

If you really want to go to school in California then you’re set. I’m sure you’ll get into the majority of schools on your list.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. In your other thread I mentioned that I would skip Miami, and I would skip Rollins for the same reasons. Rollins is a fine school, but you have equally fine options closer to home. I thinking adding St. Mary’s (it’s in Moraga CA) is a great idea! The school fits your criteria well, and they have an undergrad and graduate business program. I know several graduates and am glad nov9th mentioned it. Your list is well put together, and I think you will be very happy when you receive admission decisions ;)

thanks! thanks!

UCSB has a pretty good business economics program, especially for accounting. I’ve never heard that UCI has a good business program… and I live 10 minutes away. Most kids from my school go to CSUF rather than UCI for business, so I would definitely recommend you check that out. You would probably have a good shot in getting into CSUF too, my BF had similar stats to yours and he got in. :)

EDIT: Also, check out Chapman. They have a pretty good business program from what I hear, too.

OP – I think you’re not being realistic about what is a “slight reach”.

UCs Santa Barbara/Davis/Irvine have ave. UC GPA of about 3.9. You are correct that UC Santa Cruz is a possible match, but NOT “in for sure”. A match is not a sure thing. Cal Poly SLO is as hard to get into as the three mid-tier UCs these days… it is cheaper, and SLO is a great place to go to college – so that also is a reach for your stats.

USC is a far, far reach… by that I mean under 2% chance. San Diego State would be a match also… good business program.

No extracurriculars?

I had similar stats (slightly higher SATs, slightly lower GPA including 1 D) and I didn’t get into any UCs besides Merced. I also got into San Francisco State.

California college admissions are harder than people think. In the end I chose to go to a community college and transfer.
