Help narrowing down my college list

@fbhsmom What the heck, it looks like University of South Carolina would be a safety with its average accepted. What do you guys think? Because the acceptance rate and average accepted GPA and est scores are low overall but maybe for the school of business are more selective.

U South Carolina should be on your list for international business. However that program is much more competitive than “regular” USC admission. For merit money, there’s the terrific Honors College (application due in October).
Finally, run the NPCs. An academic safety that’s unaffordable is no safety at all.

OP - you really need to figure out what you can afford. It does not seem like your family can afford full pay for many of the schools you have listed, if you are concerned about even just the application fees. Your stats do not seem to predict any merit scholarships, and you have parents who are college educated - so you would not qualify for first gen or low income status. You can only borrow something like $5500 on your own, per year. How would you make up the remainder for all those pricey schools? Also, as has been pointed out, a safety is one that you can get into AND can afford.

Run the NPC. When I run them for my kid, some schools add a Parent Plus loan as “aid”, and give a final total of “$0” . Magic! Well, that’s a loan, not grants or scholarship. You really need to have a discussion with your parents about the affordability of all these programs you are looking into. You go to a private school, and perhaps a lot of the discussion about colleges do not mention anything about the price tag. But the tuition costs are real, and cannot be wished away by all the smoke and mirrors surrounding financial aid.

Wouldn’t more UCs and CSUs be more financially sensible potential safeties for a California resident?

All UCs + strong CSUs with OP’s intended major should be applied to as a common sense measure.

@FutureUniversity the University of South Carolina has the number one honors college among all public schools. check it out. There is probably a thread on it too… Very impressive. We went to a scholars dinner at Ruth Chris they asked my daughter to attend. Everyone they invited was sophisticated, sharp and interesting! The people running the program where very driven and enthusiastic as well as intelligent. It is very selective so I’m not sure it would be a fit as I don’t know your grades or the cut off etc. However they really do have an impressive program as well as a strong group of engaged students.
