Even ED you have about average chances at UPenn - around 20%. Other top schools you should probably take a look that might be a bit easier for you to get into:

Washington University in St. Louis
Northwestern
Wesleyan
Johns Hopkins
Cornell
Carleton
Vassar
Carnegie Mellon
Tufts
Washington and Lee
Emory
Vanderbilt

The hardest are on the top, with difficulty decreasing as you go down the list. And I don't mean to say that any of these schools are not selective or rigorous. All of them are. It's just that they're all a bit less selective than Penn.

yeah 700 is really low (sarcasm)...dude get over yourself, you know that a 700 is a good score, stop whining. ..Now, I think you have an ok chance but your ec's suck, if you can improve those some way I think you havea pretty good chance of getting in.

if you're not smart enough to realize that 2300 is a great score even in penn's applicant pool, you're probably not smart enough to go to penn. stop pretending to self-deprecate, and just report.

now, i disagree with those who think your ECs are weak, mainly because they are eerily similar to mine (Editor in Chief, President of a club, a few miscellaneous). they're not weak if you know how to present them.

finally, there's no way to know what would be a better "fit" for you. but you should visit penn if you haven't already. it's a very urban campus, and it feels like it. it also has a party reputation. it's much more preprofessional than the other Ivies, which are more intellectual.

Madeinusa- the score is 2280 not 2300, plus writing is less important than the others. nonetheless, i think the scores are good, but i can't blame the OP for thinking it's low in comparison to others on this board.

I think the ECs are on the weak side.

In my opinion, your chances at Penn ED are much higher than 20%. Your GPA is great if it's unweighted.

Your stats are definitely stellar, but you need something to make yourself stand out. Write excellent essays and apply early. You have a great chance at Penn!

Yeah, your ec's are weak, but if you can, set up an interview and just put them over the edge there. I applied to Penn (didn't get in, but you have way better scores than me), and one of the things they pushed was Interviews.

Hi, My name is Chris, my friends call me Topher because it is the 2nd part of my name. (Chris-Topher) I am a early decisioner who was accepted to Penn in January. But compared to your apparantly "low" scores, i must be almost nothing. I got 2100 in my SAT, 740 CR, 720 M, 640 W. My GPA is 3.5 unweighted and no one really cares about my EC's because I don't do much. My interview went pretty shabbily and i was caught talking BS when the interviewer asked me what I understood about Investment Banking. My dad nor my mom went to Penn, instead they went to Rochester, and I did not have enough money to donate a building or facility to Penn. Lastly, I wrote my two essays the night before the deadline and it would make a 9th grader's essay look good. Oh, and im a Asian male if that counts for anything.

But now......I am a proud to-be student of Penn hoping to graduate in 2010, and no, i am not talking about Penn State, this is the University of Pennsylvannia I am talking about. Seeing someone as worthless as me making it into Penn should almost guarantee your success. I wish you every bit of luck and maybe (most probabaly with your stats) I'll see you around next year.

Oh, just dont screw up your "SAT IIIs" (haha)...

ok, i'm pretty optimistic about your chances, but it's far from a "guarantee." for every topher, there are 10 other extremely qualified students (like you) who get rejected for no particular reason except that somebody needs to get rejected.
