<p>Help !
I want to use a section of a longer thesis for my writing sample, but the word limit I have to work within is really low [and the online submission thing caps the word limit]. What's killing my limit is my works cited list. Has anyone ever put a note on the writing sample such as "Works Cited available upon request" ???? Is this even a good thing to try and attempt?</p>

<p>I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't leave the works cited out...I'm pretty sure graduate schools take the whole citing thing very seriously as you will be doing a lot research and probably publishing papers. I know your intentions are good, but you may send them wrong message.</p>
<p>You can leave out the works cited if you already have endnotes/footnotes.</p>
<p>Thanks for the help. I actually was pretty sure this was unacceptable so I talked with the department. They told me to send it on ahead by mail, not online, so that my works cited did not count in the word limit. Problem solved!</p>
