Help out a confused junior

Hey CCers!
I recently took the SAT Reasoning Test (hoping for a 2300+) and am now signing up for the June SAT Subject tests. I already took the test in Word History and scored a 730 (86th percentile). This year, I am enrolled in AP Calculus, AP French, AP Literature, and AP US History. I am wondering which two SAT Subject Tests to sign up for out of: US History, Literature, and French. I am for sure taking Math 2 test.

I guess I have several questions: How similar are US History and Literature SAT tests to the AP Tests? How hard are they?

I am a very strong French student and have traveled to France in the past. I have also scored very high on the National French Exam. I am wondering, should I wait until November to take the French with Listening Test, or will the regular French one be enough? How do the colleges view the two tests?

I am planning to apply to a wide variety of schools possibly including: HYPS, Duke, Middlebury, Georgetown, Tufts, Bowdoin, UC Berkeley, U Michigan, U Virginia, U Washington Honors

The whole SAT2 process seems a little confusing, so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Having done both AP Englishes, AP USH, and the associated subject tests…here’s my 2 cents.

For USH, the subject test is basically the same as the AP Multiple Choice. Basically lots of memorization, with some document interpretation thrown in. Note that there is a guessing penalty on the subject test (unlike the AP exam) so you should be a bit more careful with your guesses.

The Literature subject test is much more like AP English Lit than Language, but honestly I think it’s harder (possibly one of the hardest subject tests). The curve on Literature is brutal (you can miss at most 2, I think, to keep an 800) and the questions on 16th century poetry can be quite tough to answer in the 60 minutes you have. Do a practice test for this one and you’ll see what I mean. Basically Literature is the subject test for you if you can ace SAT CR.

Math 2 is definitely a good one to take; as an AP Calculus student I don’t think you’d find it too challenging.

I did Latin so I can’t speak much for French, although I think most schools would prefer to see your proficiency in both speaking and reading/writing (for non-classical languages). You might want to examine the policies of each school you’re applying to for this one.

November is usually too close to call for admissions. Sure, they say it will be fine, but CB often screws up. It sounds like you will do well in French, so go for it! Foreign language always helps.
I’ve also heard Lit is a brutal exam and one of the hardest subject tests. USH sounds much better. Here are the curves from the SAT subject test official book

Literature: ~60 questions
-2 onward: 800
-3/-4: 790
-5: 780
-6: 770
-7: 760
-8/-10: 750
-9: 740
-10: 730
-11/-12: 720
-13/-14: 710
-15: 700

US History: 90 questions
-10: 800
-11: 790
-12/13: 780
-14: 770
-15: 760
-16/-17: 750
-18: 740
-19/-20: 730
-21: 720
-22/-23: 710
-24/-25: 700

French: 85 questions
-10: 800
[each -2 after, subtract 10 points. -26=700]

P.S. I’m taking French in June!

I took US History after taking APUSH last year and scored a 790 without studying. I also self-studied AP French and got an 800 on that subject test. I thought the French was fairly easy and the US History wasn’t too bad, though I wouldn’t recommend taking subject tests the day after an AP exam like I did lol. You should do great. Good luck :)
