French Subject Test or US History Subject Test

Should I take the French subject test even if I'm in Honors French 4 and not AP French (as a junior)? Or should I take the US subject test, but Im not in AP. Which one would i have a higher possibility of doing better in?
Thanks

As you’ve taken the AP course for neither subject, I’d say that you’d have to devote a substantial amount of time to prepare for both exams. In my mind, you have an equal shot at both, though perhaps a greater chance of success on the U.S. History exam because of its more generous curve.

The SAT II USH exam has a generous curve? I have to go check my Blue Book for that.

But I have taken the French (Reading Only) test. I think the test isn’t too bad. Of the 3 sections (vocab, grammar, reading), I would say the vocabulary section is the hardest (how the hell are you supposed to know what a “douanier” is (BTW, it’s a customs officer; that word was on the June SAT II)). If you know your grammar rules (like “Au passe, le participe passe s’accorde avec un objet direct qui precede”, etc.), the grammar section is a breeze. Ask your French teacher about your level and his/her advice.

Sorry I couldn’t put in accents on some of the letters.

Are you taking the French with listening? If you are, I would highly suggest you don’t. From what I’ve heard, it’s almost as hard as the AP. And the AP is HARD if you’re not a native speaker. I think you should take U.S. It’s pure memorization, so it’ll be really easy to study.

the french test really isn’t that hard

in my opinion, language tests are pretty easy, because they are designed for non-native speakers

for myself, I am in IB French B, and I scored an 800 on the french reading only test. I’m pretty sure I got at least 4~5 wrong, but the curve is pretty generous (I think 8 wrong would still be 800)

I’d say the French listening on the SAT II is harder than that of AP, since many questions only have 3 or 4 answer choices (meaning the guessing penalty is up to 1/2 per wrong answer) and because the choices are only played once for some. It’s really challenging to catch what’s being said the first (and only) time.

I’d go for USH because:

Score = Effort x k (for some constant, k)
