Help planning trip to Boston to visit colleges

Actually Davis Square is closer to Tufts than Porter Square - there is a bus you can take from there to the school (I have walked it -but it might not be fun to walk with luggage)

From Davis Square to Tufts, I think a cab would cost about the same with 3 or 4 people.

These days, I have been using Uber (and my DD also uses Lyft) with satisfaction.

Yes! It’s a wonderful experience. The building itself is worth the visit.

Like an earlier poster, we’ve also had very good luck in Boston with Hotwire. Just be careful picking your areas with Hotwire so you don’t get stuck too far from public transportation. For fun, I just went on and entered a Thursday-Sunday stay later this month and found a Boston Common 3 1/2 star hotel for $182/night. As long as you stick to close in areas and 3 star or higher you should do fine, and often get a pleasant surprise.

I stand corrected! Davis Square is much closer.

We have stayed at so many hotels there, mostly based on price. We stayed at a B&B in Brookline once…it was meh…we had our then 11 year old daughter ( well mannered and quiet ) When we had breakfast on the porch, a stuffy older woman walked right out of the room when she saw her. I wouldn’t recommend staying at a place like that with a teen. My daughter went to Northeastern, but we never stayed at the Midtown…closet hotel was the Sheraton at the Pru.
And if you want to stay near South Station, there is the Intercontinental within short walking distance.

One sightseeing suggestion–I am always amazed by the glass flowers at the Harvard Natural History Museum. If you are in Cambridge and have time to go to the campus and visit, It’s worth the effort.

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
