Help please! TIA!!

S has a friend (HS senior) who is an independent student (parents are gone, mostly stays with an aunt). He is an average student with average SAT scores. A phenomenal dancer with little outside training, other than what he gets during the school day. Has a strong resume in activities and leadership (student body president of very large school). He will qualify for full Pell grant and is a minority male. I’ll cross-post this on the dance board, but does anyone have program suggestions that are still accepting prescreens?

With this situation it would be helpful to know what part of the country he currently resides since he has limited resources .

The Southeast. But we might be able to gather some money for him to do a wave of auditions.

I think I answered this somewhere else - but definitely consider Oklahoma City University - Ann Lacey School of Dance. It is incredible.

I would guess that the deadlines to apply to most BFA programs have passed, unfortunately. One suggestion – not sure if this would appeal to him – is Muhlenberg. It is a BA, but I think they are pretty strong in dance as BAs go, and the deadline is February 15.

Coastal Carolina has a Feb 10th deadline for prescreens for all their BFA’s.

I have heard good things about Southeast Missouri State. They have their own performing arts campus – The River Campus – and it is an affordable school.

SETC annual conference could be a player. It will be held in Mobile, AL on March 7-11th this year. Many colleges attend, while some of the big names might have already finished their auditions, there are numerous schools attending the auditions and signing up students. I do not know how dance focused many of the schools attending are but could be a good bang for the money.

If he’s interested in a musical theatre BFA Western Carolina University has a March 24th audition date. They do not have a dance major only a minor.

Kent state has a march audition date left as well.
