HELP please UVa vs UNC

Hi guys
I've been recently admitted to both UNC @ Chapel Hill and UVa and I absolutely cannot make my mind up about where I should go.

I'm not only OOS at both, I'm actually an international student and have absolutely no option of visiting any of those. This may actually be not only a downside, because my choice does not depend on the tuition costs, proximity to relatives, friends and so forth. It depends on the student life, education and my future job.

I'm planning on majoring in business. I've watched virtually every video I found regarding both universities, I've read all the threads and discussions comparing both of them, I've also compared Chapel Hill to Charlottesville and I was very happy to find out that wherever I go, I would end up in an absolutely wonderful place. But where exactly should I go?!

I ran out of criteria by which I choose the uni, since they are very close in numbers. Well, except maybe for international and national rankings. I personally think that all of the ratings are complete rubbish, nevertheless Times ranks UNC at 47 & UVa at 116 (why?), and Bloomberg ranked UVa #2 undergrad business school (UNC@#10).

I'm looking forward to maybe studying abroad for a month or a semester, and I saw UVa having a little more opportunities for that. Should this be the deciding factor?
I really wish some of you could help me out where would you go and why. Where would I have a better time and a better start to my career afterwards?
Thanks in advance!

I’m not familiar with the UNC business program. Are you admitted as a freshman? As you probably know, you must apply to the McIntire School at UVa during your second year. Admission is highly competitive, so you need to factor that into your decision.

UVa has a more geographically diverse student enrollment, because UNC saves such a high percentage of their seats for in-state students. You might check to see if there are student organizations affiliated with your part of the world. It might be a little easier to adjust for instance if there are 50 students at a university from your country or neighboring countries vs. 1 or 2.

Our D was accepted into the honors programs at both schools and faced this same decision four years ago. She ruled out UNC fairly quickly from her list of acceptances because there are so few OOS students. (She too was OOS for both.). She was fearful that many kids at UNC would leave to go home often for weekend and short holiday breaks while she would be on campus. Additionally, with almost 85% from NC (compared to 69% IS at UVA) she was concerned about feeling more like an outsider at UNC. Also, UVA pushed the envelope concerning size for her and UNC is even larger. Although her concerns may seem irrational/superficial to some, they were real to her, and she had multiple acceptances so she needed something to whittle down the list.

For undergraduate business, USNWR ranks McIntire as #5 and UNC as #7. McIntire is also ranked higher on Bloomberg. UVA is ranked #23 and UNC is #30. I personally think they’re so close that rankings really should not influence your decision. They are both excellent schools, and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Good luck!

Yep, I’m a freshman.

I come from a veeery tiny country and I’m 99% sure I won’t find any compatriots whatsoever, so…

I don’t know if this is a factor for you but UVA board just announced tuition increases (posted on website) of 5.9% for OOS
