Help please: Which scores to send out of ACT and SAT?

Hi guys,
I'm looking to send the scores which help me the best. Here are my score breakdowns:
SAT Superscore: 2210
First take: CR 750 M 690 W 620 (accidentally skipped 4 writing questions at end of test)
Second take: CR 720 M 680 W 770 (this is how it should be, my writing is always highest)

ACT Composite Score: 32
Only took it one time:
English 36
Math 29
Reading 33
Science 30
Essay 12
Combined english/essay: 36

My GPA is 3.9.
My rank is 11/740.

I am looking to apply to HYPSM and other top tier schools. Of these scores, which should I send to best reflect me? Just SAT, just ACT, or both?
Thank you.

Wait, I’m confused. Your second take adds to 2170. How did you get 2210?

If you got 2210, it seems like that’s equivalent to 32, so it doesn’t really matter.

2210 is my superscore. That means the highest score on each section added together. CR 750 M 690 and W 770.

Oh, okay!

Additional input highly appreciated! I still am having trouble with this.

A 32 ACT is equivalent to about a 2130 SAT, not 2210.

So your SAT Superscore is higher and with an 80 pt difference, I’d likely omit the ACT (except for S which requires both if taken). You’ll need a couple of good Subject tests too.

If you send ACT then you won’t need SAT subjects, probably, if that’s a factor. Otherwise I’d say send both, if possible, though entomom’s equivalency makes a good point. Since you have superscore on your side, SAT is looking good.

Look up requirements for each college you are applying to. I know that Cornell requires SAT Subject tests even if ACT is submitted, I assume other Ivies are similar.

Don’t send both if your SAT is higher. Besides ACT costs more money to send according to one CCer. However some schools require you to send all standardized test scores, ACT and SAT, like Penn.

You should retake the sat or the act or both. Your scores are not impressive. A 690 math score to MIT? Their average is very close to 800, especially for nonhooked applicants.

Just D I believe.

Is that really necessary? I was under the impression that breaking 2200 on the SAT is good enough for any school. My aim is not to impress with my test scores, merely to not be rejected because of them. It probably takes a 2400 or a 36 to impress with test scores at top tier schools anyway, and I have simply not had the long-term focus to pull those scores. As for my absolutely atrocious math score that will be spat upon by MIT and Caltech admissions officers, I figured I could remedy that by making 700 or above on a Math II subject test. Was that the wrong assumption to make?

MIT and Caltech are different from other top schools since they are math/sci/eng/tech oriented. Check out the CB stats the % of fr w/sub 700 M scores on their SAT:

https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search

They are 8% for MIT and 2% for Caltech.

Look at MITs CDS for 2010/11, the 25% for M is 740:

I’ll bet if you look at the CR scores, MIT & Caltech will go the opposite direction of other top schools who tend to care more about the students ability to read and understand written material.

And given the generous scoring for the Math 2, I’d figure 750+ would be closer to the norm at these two schools, and many applicants will have 800s or close.
