I want to start my own business, yet I also want to get into IB for few year, due to the capital and knowledge it requires to become an entrepreneur. Currently there is a tough decision in front of me. I got into Babson, Northeastern and Macaulay Honor @ Baruch. To me, I would love to go to Babson, and I know its entrepreneurial program is amazing, yet I afraid of the career opportunities there due to the location. For Northeaster, although it has co-op program, but Baruch seems the easiest to get into IB as its in NY, and its also easier to get an intern. I’m still waiting for Stern, so I will put that as an option.

I am considering major in Finance and International Business or Actuarial Science.

PS: I got full grant for babson, but not scholarship. I need to pay $17000 for Northeastern. Macaulay cover my tuition for Baruch, but I have to live home which I don’t want to.

First of all congratulations on getting accepted to all those great schools. Have you visited each of those schools? What did you think of them? I can only speak to Babson as I currently go here, but we have a great Finance and International Business program. If you are worried about career opportunities you shouldn’t be because most of the students that have come to Babson have had at least one internship during their time here. I think the number is 98%. Then after college most people find jobs easily. 95% of 2010 graduates had full time jobs or were in grad school 6 months after graduating. If the career opportunities are the only thing holding you back from Babson I think you should go for it.

Sorry I can’t speak more about the other schools, but I don’t know anything about them so I don’t want to tell you anything that isn’t true.

Thanks ganglee for your information. I had visited all of them. To me, Babson has the most beautiful campus, Northeastern is just average, Baruch is hard to say, because it’s a commute college.

How is the Alumni network in Babson? and what is the avg. hrs of schoolwork per week?

The Alumni network is great at Babson. Because we are a small school everyone really gets to be part of the school and is proud of the fact that they’ve graduated from Babson. A great thing about it is that they all aren’t in a business field necessarily. People go off and do all kinds of strange jobs after graduating from Babson. Our Alumni Relations department is great at connecting current students with Alumni, so you’ll get a chance to talk with some Alumni in fields you are interested all the time.

The average hours of schoolwork per week varies. If I was going to do an estimate an average I would say about 15 hours outside of the classroom in freshman year. Not everyone spends that much time. Of course some people spend more time. No matter what people still manage to find a lot of time to have fun.
