Help!!!!! Pre MEd!

its my second year in college and im just doing the pre med requirements. I just wanted to know what major would be best for me plz! I was thinking industrial design or do you think its a waste of time. Im a creative person so I was thinking about that. Also I wanted to do a major where if I dont want to do pre med then I can fall back on this major and it could give me a good job any suggestions plz!!! help!!!

I’m not exactly well informed, but I’m in the same boat as you are (almost…I’m just a senior in high school that wants to go to med skool but wanted a major I could fall back on in case my plans didn’t work out.) I’ve settled on Physics as I enjoy it thoroughly and because of its use of math Physics majors can also work as engineers or in financing, or research, etc.

If you like industrial design and think you would like it as a career you should definitely do that though.

You could do something more practical to use in case your med school plans don’t work out (and according to stats, they don’t- for the majority of applicants- but they can for you if you are a good applicant!). But although med schools say you can pick any undergrad, the science majors really do best prepare you for med school. Your first two years of med school are very much science based (biochemistry, embryology, microbiology, etc.) at a very fast pace, and it does go beyond your standard pre-med science requirements. That’s something to consider. You basically have to choose between being ‘safe’, but very likely not as competitive or successful in med school compared to your peers who were more prepared, or being determined that that is what you want and knowing that it is what you will get- and then preparing yourself accordingly. Good luck.

Hi i have the same type of issue… I want to go to Med School to become a psychiatrist but wow thats gonna take forever!!! If i major in Psychology or even Clinical Psychology, could i still work as a therapist just not prescribe medicine?

Ihurt, I believe you need at least a masters to work as a therapist without prescribing medication.
