So I really like Lafayette College. I been to the campus, did an interview, went to info session, etc… I want to major in Computer science, but on ratemyprofessors.com Lafayette Computer science professors have very low rating. I read through them and they receive low grades because students said they are lazy, hard, or gives unclear lectures, while another half said it’s challenging and professors are very helpful.
I don’t mine doing hard work so hard professors aren’t my concern, but I want to know if anyone graduated or is currently studying computer science at Lafayette College. If so, how’s the professors there? I want to know as much information as possible. I will also attend “Leopard for a day” so I can hopefully talk to some of the students on campus.
My D’s is at Lafayette now (loves it!) and she has a good friend who is a CS major. He couldn’t get home for the holiday and spent last Thanksgiving at our house – he was very happy with the major/his professors etc. He said the CS majors get good jobs or get into good grad schools (depending which path they want to take). If you come back to campus hopefully you can talk to some CS majors yourself.
If you haven’t yet, I’d let admissions know that you are applying as a CS major and see if they can pair you with a CS major so you can see some of those classes first-hand.
@KenC711 The ratings in those websites are never reliable. Only people on the extremes actually take the time to write reviews. I would encourage you to talk to students directly, rather than trust review sites. One way to do this would be to email the department head of the CS department, and ask him/her if they could find you someone to talk to about the CS program. You could also call the admissions office to make the same request.
thx for ur reply. I actually signed up for an event call “Leopard for a Day”. I basically follow a student around for a day and I get to sit with Lafayette students at lunch and classroom and ask them question!
If anyone needs info about the Computer Science department feel free to message me I have some time during winter break.
I’m no longer active on CC though, so if you could move to Quora (and you should, it’s super fun there) and post a question, I’ll be sure to answer.
