Hi!! I’m a senior right now and I’m trying to finalize my list. I have academically applied to a couple of schools but I just wanted to get opinions. So I have a 3.2 unweighted gpa and a 3.5 weighted gpa. But, I have taken 6 AP classes and I have taken Honors courses. Since I am applying and auditioning for a MT major I was wondering if it is wise for me to apply to these schools
NYU (my biggest reach school)
Syracuse University (dream school)
Chapman University
LMU (Loyola Marymount)
Nazareth College
Penn State University Park (dream school)
San Diego State University
CSU Chico (non audition)
Dean College
Point Park University
Rider University
I just want to make sure I am not being too modest or too vain, I just really want to major in Musical theatre. Any help or feedback at all would mean so much to me!!!
Are these in your budget? Did you run the NPC for each? What’s your home state?
Maybe Ithaca, Elon, or Berklee in Boston? Ithaca isn’t a large town and it’s off the beaten path but it’s a pretty cool place. Boston is a great college town.
Syracuse and Point Park are solid choices. S21 has been to both for film camps and will apply to Syracuse. Point Park has really upgraded their facilities. They’ve bought and renovated several buildings in downtown Pittsburgh.
@charliek12 If the question is if your GPA is good enough, then I would say that you have no worries for most schools for MT. For the schools that are well-known in this forum, admission is based on the audition. NYU and University of Michigan are the two that stand out as schools that give more weight to the GPA for MT students. CA schools aren’t quite as familiar to me, but most of your list will be no problem from an academic perspective.
@CharlieK12 keep in mind 4 of those schools ( at least as of last year) had pre screens: Syracuse, Penn state, Point Park and Rider. I am not trying to scare you but it is totally possible that you could not pass any or all of those 4 pre screens- that does not mean that you are not talented, but the pre-screens are a tough one to figure out…if that happens are you OK with just the remaining 7 schools? as noted before your grades are good enough, but the MT schools are most heavily based on the audition…I might consider casting a bit wider net, especially this year when travel is unlikely to be needed to audition. food for thought…good luck!
