Yeah, it's C. Parallelism.

Opposite to the opinion of several respected library critics, Jane Austen does not make [/]good taste or manners in themselves sure signs of virtue in her characters.

What is the correct answer ? and why?
It's either A or E. I'm not sure what the real answer is.

Setting herself up as a preserver of the Classical tradition, Clara Schumann was an outspoken critic toward Romantic composer Franz Liszt.

Why is the correct answer D? (change "critic toward" to "critic of"
Singular plural issue. Clara schumann is singular, verb should be towards.

When looking at modern photographs of that area of Indonesia, the effects of the 1883 eruption of the volcano Krakatau are still evident.
"when looking at modern photographs of that area of indonesia". Who is looking at it? Are the effects looking at it?
It needs to be rewritten: When you look

i started another thread about this yesterday. see if u can find it.

Setting herself up as a preserver of the Classical tradition, Clara Schumann was an outspoken critic toward Romantic composer Franz Liszt.

Why is the correct answer D? (change "critic toward" to "critic of"

Singular plural issue. Clara schumann is singular, verb should be towards.

can't be , since toward is not a verb (no singular/ plural issue)

bump.........

of instead of toward.

Twinkletoes, you're not completely correct.

On 32, towards is not correct. Toward and towards are completely interchangeable (<a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=towards)%5B/url%5D">http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=towards)</a>, so towards is wrong for the same reason toward is -- it's just not the right preposition. People are critics of people, not critics toward them.

And Nash, the answer to 29 is A. Opposite is not the right word. Contrary or something similar would be more fitting.

On 34, twinkletoes is correct. Think about it -- the way the sentence is structured, the dependent clause at the beginning is technically modifying effects. Since the effects are obviously not looking at an eruption, something must be changed to clear up the ambiguity.
