<p>I just bought my Ti-89 the other day. Im trying some Algebra on it. And Have some questions. </p>
<p>How do you do the Foil Method on this calculator? It does not seem to be working correctly when i do it. By just entering like (x+4)(x+3).</p>
<p>Also When I factor(16x-4) It does not seem to give it in the simplified form. </p>
<p>Is there any programs that are made specifically for Algebra. I know it has some stuff built in, But even more. Me advanced?</p>

<p>as for you question. i had the same trouble at first:</p>
<p>do this if don't have anything important saved:</p>
<p>1)2nd 6 [clean out memory]
2)f1
3)f2 2 [factor function]
4) enter
5) type: 16x-4
6) enter</p>
<p>you should get 4 (4x-1).</p>
<p>For the FOIL or expand function:</p>
<p>1)f2
2) 3
3) enter
4) type: (x+4)(x+3) [make sure these are inside the parenthesis)
5) enter</p>
<p>You should get x^2 + 7x +12</p>

<p>um yeah, for the instruction after number #2 for the EXPAND problem, don't forget to choose 1: RAM 1: All RAM. tha's what i did and i forgot to mention</p>

<p>Thanks for your reply. I think my problem is that sometime I don't know which drop down feature to use. Is there anywhere on the web that gives you an example of each type of problem to use for each feature</p>
<p>Maybe read your booklet? It helps me figure out how to program my Ti-83+</p>
<p>so did it work?? as for your question, there should be a instruction booklet that came with it. there is an index in the back about how to use each "button" or function. there are examples in there, but sometimes it's pretty hard to understand that. you should go online and i think there is a forum on texas instrument on unique problems. but usually a good session on how to use the calculator is good too. but for me, i just kind of played with the functions and figured it on my own.</p>
<p>the only thing bad about ti-89 is that the instruction booklet is quite different from ti-83+ . as far as i know, i don't know if your ti-89 and my ti-89 is the same version, but you should definitely have an instructional booklet with it. hopefully you didn't throw it away...and for future help, if you're taking STATISTICS, you need to download this whole new flash app.</p>
<p>and also good thing about ti-89 is that when you push the function for example factor(, from the "catalog", there is this thing on the bottom left corner "EXPR [,VAR]" that helps to know what you need to type in. in this case put in EXPR=expression, your equation and [,VAR] is option=sometimes you factor using different variable, but for your case, you dont' have to put in the option, just the expression."</p>
<p>Ok here is another question. How Do I factor 3x^2-xy-14y^2</p>
<p>I use the factor botton but for these problems it is not working. Also What about Solution factoring problems such as .4x^3+6x=14x^2</p>
