TI-89 Help!

I'm preparing to take the IIC tomorrow and my TI-89 is acting weird. When I try to factor something, for example 16x-4 (not that I need help factoring THIS expression, but it's an example) i put in factor(16x-4). The calc then "responds" with ''Error: Non-algebraic variable in expression". I don't know what to do to fix this. Can someone please help me.
Also, how do you do limits?

For Limits:
Press Calculus menu button (I think its F3?)
Select Limits
Press Enter
Type expression
Type "comma, x, the number you want x to approach"
Then press enter and it solves it!

Thanks. Any idea about my other question?

Did you store a value to X, check in second vars. Whenever you have a question on how to input into deriv, integrate, go into your catalogue, go onto whatever one, and press F1 for help, they tell u the input and order for each function. It is so helpful, but I still dont know how to store a list w/o manually entering.

I can't figure out how to tell if I stored a value for X. I feel like a complete idiot, but I don't understand your instructions. Please help me.

Try factor ((16x-4),x)

that says "syntax." thanks though

when I mess something like that up on the calculator, I usually just try to clear up all the memory so that the calculator settings return to normal- that is, if I don't have anything important stored on my calculator at the moment...

to do this just press the buttons

2nd
+
7
arrow all the way over
1
2

I just input a bunch of formulas to help me tomorrow, so I would rather not clear out everything if I don't have to. I will definately do it if that 's the only way, though, Thanks.

Its not the only way, hit second, now at the bottom right there is in yellow, "var-link" aka the minus sign.
Main with an arrow shows up, go down to where the x is, its in abc order. If yo see an x, hit the left arrow next to clear, and then hit enter. This will delete it. This is also how you get to your games, atleast how I do.

It Worked!!!
