HELP! Screwed over by UCSB housing!

Ever since I've sent in my SIR to UCSB, I've ran into all sorts of problems. I couldn't establish my email account until 4 weeks after I SIR'ed and now they're saying that they never received my housing contract. I faxed my housing contract along with my hepatitis b immunization forms and they never received both. I'm now on the waiting list to get a dorm. What are the chances of student on the waiting list getting a dorm? Is it a lottery or by first-come-first-serve? Any better alternatives?

thanks guys!

It mentions not offering many people on the waitlist housing because of the number of incoming Freshmen.

It also mentions to check out the two private dorms. Fountainblue and Tropicana Gardens.

Good luck, sorry they misplaced your contract.

Kind of the same thing happened to me; I called before the deadline concerning my inability to submit a housing application (just submitted SIR through the mail) , and she told me the deadlines were soft. I found out the hard way they were not since the transfer housing is closed.

Not sure if I should start a new thread or not, but I was wondering what people thought of the transfer dorms? Are they overrated? Ultimately, I wanted to rent a room in IV or something, but I was concerned about finding the right people to room with, which I was hoping I would be able to assess during dorm living. Can anyone suggest any alternatives? I was looking forward to a dorm style of living as I spent my first years in community college.

the transfer living is in san raf, which the transfer students can be cool, but there are alot of boring people that live there too... as most of the cool people live in IV after their freshman year...

i was an international exchange student who lived on a transfer floor last year and had a great time, there were a bunch of us international exchange students, but there were alot of people around who sucked on the other floors...

but it is a good way to meet people, and the manzanita/san rafael location on campus is ideal, right next to IV... the other problem with the dorms is they're quite strictly regulated when it comes to noise, alcohol etc.

IV would be really fun , you just need to get in with the right group of people...

i know i haven't helped much, just thought i'd fill you in on my experience...

i heard Fountainblue and Tropicana Gardens are bad

Yeah, but what should you do when you're in a situation like that? It'd be better to live in a dorm than try and find roomates to live in an apartment in IV or Goleta, in my opinion.

just wait and go to archive.org and see that just 7 years ago, dorms were 4k cheaper and campus owned apartments were half the price
