I want to go to school with either a vibrant college town or in a city. I really loved GW, but it's really expensive and I have some concerns about the student body. I like NYU but I wasnt really in love with it. I want to probably double major in political science and communication, but if I go to GW there is a huge plus of having the combined major of Political Communication. It would be amazing to go to UNC-CH but I don't know if I could get in. I just need a list of schools for saftey, match, and reach. I want to go to an urban mid sized school. I'd appreciate any help I could get!

i dont know if that gpa is unweighted or not but i really like gw and i think you can probably get in and get decent financial aid. nyu is a maybe. unc is probably the same chance as gw (harder to get into but they take more in-state). id recommend american university in d.c. which is #1 in politicial science as a relative safety and syracuse as a safety because they have a great communications program and its in ny. good luck!

Am I missing something or do you have no science junior or senior year ? Or did you take it, but just not honors? If you have only two years of science, I think GW, NYU, and UNC-CH are all unlikely. If you did take science, but just not honors, that’s a different story.

SUPA Forensics was an honors science course, it’s associated with Syracuse University. I am not taking a science senior year because it would just eat up my schedule so I opted to take AP Stat. I also took chemistry sophomore year and bio freshman year.

Doesn’t NYS require a half credit each of economics and government for graduation? At our HS, seniors take these courses either locally or for college credit. Idk if your SUNY class will meet that requirement, but it doesn’t sound like it from the title. Has your GC done a complete review of your transcript to make sure you’re meeting graduation requirements?

yes, i am taking PIG(participation in govermnent) and economics. I forgot to list them because I was only looking at my schedule for 1st semester and I completely neglected the courses that I will be taking 2nd semester.

Are you testing again? You should.

And, since CR and Writing are your strong points and math is your weakness, you should also sign up for the ACT because math only counts for 1/4 of the test. Also, some say that the math on the ACT is easier because it’s less “tricky,” so you may do better on the ACT math. Get an ACT practice book and look over the science sections so you’re familiar with them. The ACT science questions aren’t “science” per se, there are charts that you look at to find answers to questions.

Anyway, the point is that your ACT composite score may end up to be higher than your SAT, so it’s worth taking the ACT as well.

How much will your parents spend each year on your college costs? If you don’t know, ask. That answer will largely determine where you should apply.

Are you looking for merit scholarships from the schools that give them? Many scholarships are based on M+CR score (yours is 1270) or the ACT equivalent, so if you could increase your score or get a better ACT score, you may get a good scholarship. :)
