I need help weighing out the options. I want to major in the sciences, probably Biology or Biochemistry. As of now, I'm definitely interested in eventually going to Med School so this would be a factor of how much debt I'll have. Although our EFC was around 15k, my parents aren't in the position to contribute anything, but they are willing to take out loans for whichever school I choose.

Rutgers - New Brunswick: I got into the honors program and Presidential scholarship (23k a year which is basically a full ride). However, I've been on campus a few times and attended a class over the summer and I feel like its too big and it reminds me of my high school (considering that most of my high school goes here). I don't want to go, but its hard to say no to the idea of being debt free when I graduate. I also feel guilty about letting my parents take out loans.

University of Virginia: My financial package for 1 year was 20k in grants, 3500 in work study, 3500 perkins loan, 3500 direct subsidized stafford loan, and 2000 direct unsubsidized stafford loan. Total of 9,000 in federal loans. This means my parents will have to take an additional 15,000 in loans.

William & Mary: I was named a Monroe Scholar and I will get 3000 for a research project my senior year. My financial package for 1 year was 18000 in grants, 1400 work study, 4000 perkins loan, 3,500 direct subsidized loan, and 2000 direct unsubsidized loan. Total of 9500 in federal loans. This means my parents will have to take an additional 15,000 in loans as well, but it will be cheaper than U.Va I believe.

I've visited W&M and U.Va and I would love to attend, but is it worth being in debt and taking out loans? I've already tried contacting the financial aid offices, but I was unable to get more. I've heard the saying "its what you make of it" - thats what my high school was like for me and I know thats how Rutgers will be for me as well. I've also had people tell me that when I graduate I'll be able to get a job and pay off the debt as well. I know people from my school who have graduated after 3 years from U.Va, but I'd like the full 4 years. I want to hear what other opinions are out there before I make my decision. I'd like to get out of state and thats where I'd be happiest, but I also don't want to be in debt for undergrad esp. if I decide to pursue med. school.
