ive applied to a bunch of private schools such as:

princeton
upenn
rice
duke
pomona
vanderbilt
washu

ive also applied to UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham), a state school, and i have a full ride there. its like a tier 3 college, but it has a decent med school (like 25ish) and is pretty strong in the sciences. i also applied to a science and technology honors program there, where students do scientific research and do labs and maybe publish papers, etc.

to get into a good med school, would it be better to go to a private school or go to a state school (with a decent premed program) and hopefully excel there?

if i get accepted to any of those private schools, which of those colleges do you think would be worth the cost of attending (for premed)?

I suggest that you visit their campus and do the following: sit in one of the classes, talk to some of the professors or counselors, check out the cafeteria, and library. All of this will help you get your answer. I think it is important that you are able to learn in the classes, you are able to communicate with the professors and you are comfortable in the facilities provided.

Some state schools are considered higher caliber than private schools. It depends on the program, not the funding source.

It also depend on you. You need a list of criteria that you are looking for in a program.

Ex:
-Good research school?
-Experiential learning opportunities v Theory
-Diverse Student body?
-Class size?
-Course offerings?
-Campus location? City V. suburb.
-Career services program/guidance?
-networking and alumni
-regional reputation
-attrition rate
-cost
-W to M — Admit it, it’s important.
-Social life
-Professional or Research professors
In economics we ask what school of thought the professors lean toward.
Facilities - library, computers, cafeteria
-dorms or living arrangements
-etc.
