I am seriously contemplating transfering out of my current school-Brandeis- with a 3.0 GPA. I know that this pretty low, but my first semester was miserable and i had some family concerns, both reasons that I really want to transfer out in order to be closer to home. I also want to transfer for better programs in my intended majors(english lit and most likely pysch as well)( I want to go to law school) However, this semester I am doing really well, since i have learned how to make other factors less of a distraction, and expect to have at least a 3.7 ish, bringing my overall gpa to about 3.3-3.4.
I have been involved in several clubs however, including debate, the paper , ballroom dancing( for kicks) , and Waltham group( a volunteer organization that runs many programs for the local community, such as tutoring, big brother/big sister, etc)
I also had a 94 gpa unweighted in a difficult high school, rank(6 out of 100) hard course load, really good recs and ecs ( leadership positions) , and ok sats( 1240).
Schools I am considering/ applying-
Barnard( i applyed in hs, got rejected)
GW( have family in the area)
NYU
Fordham Lincoln Center ( got in from hs)
Lafayette

Brandeis also has a pretty successful transfer rate, i have heard of many people being able to transfer to the ivies, top lacs, etc.

-MY main question is- Is Barnard and NYU considered to be academically on par with Brandeis, and if so, will they take into consideration the caliber of the school at all, or will that GPA blow my chances, and if so should i wait and transfer in the spring of 2007( even though i'd really hate to have to stay here another semester)
-Also, since i was rejected from Barnard in hs, will that hurt my chances this year? NYU, i didnt apply, but i assume I'd have a decent chance, as Brandeis was ranked higher.
