I am a first year student at a California Community College. I graduated high school last year with a 3.7 unweighted, was heavily involved in school, but was rejected from 7/9 colleges. I chose not to go to the remaining two because of cost. So here I am at community. I feel a little bit lost and I hope there’s someone out there that can help me out. I have a ton of questions regarding transferring form a CC (community college). I want to major in Biochemistry and stay on the Pre-Med track.
So I guess I just have a few questions for anyone who has been through the process or has helped someone through the process
- Should I be involved in the college? Right now I'm not involved in any clubs, but I've volunteered at the hospital weekly for two years, and have a part time job and I'm enrolled in 17 units.
- What should I know about transferring? How should I be prepared when the time comes?
- How long did you spend at your CC? Also, most people at my school spend roughly three years before they transfer! I guess it was a myth that most people spend two years. I had an appointment with my counselor about a month ago, and she said I'm on track to transfer in two years, but I shouldn't get my hopes up. What does that mean? I'm so determined to get out of this CC, it's hard for me to see the light at the end of this tunnel and I need advice. I can't imagine spending three years here
- Honors college? Right now I'm in the regular college, but I find that to be challenging enough. I have straight A's but we have finals just around the corner.
- How do you get scholarships when you transfer? Are they merit based?
- How often do I need to do the FAFSA and why?
