I'm looking for good colleges for humanities. Currently considering majors in international law, international relations or journalism. I'm considering NYU, Brown and Claremont.

Please give me some advice, seriously appreciate it.
THANK YOU

o and I forgot to mention that I won't be needing financial aid

I think you will likely get admited into NYU, Brown and Claremont. You may want to try Princeton, Harvard,Yale, Stanford and Georgetown as well. You may also add some UC schools as your safety.

So I would have a shot at some IV leagues?

Surely. As I already told you on International Students, you have a great chance at NYU (the only place you mentioned there).

Yes! You would have a shot at IV leagues. Your academic statistics provides a necessary base. How you present it, through your essays/statement/recommendations, will decide whether you get accepted or not. The more reach schools you apply, the more shots you will get and more likely you will get into a top school which match you well.

Yes, you have a shot. But so does everyone who applies, in theory.

I'm going to caution against inverse's assertion that applying to more schools raises your odds. If you are not qualified at one institution, odds are others of similar standing will not accept you either.

And as an international you're competing not for one of 2,000 spots but rather for one of 100-150 spots in a class. So it is significantly tougher. And you need to go into the process with that in mind.

Good luck!

The key word is "if you are not qualified". But once your statistics fit into their middle 50% range and you prepare your application package thoughtfully, the process become quite random and events tend to become independent. In such case, the more school you apply, the better chance you will get into at least one top school which match you.

A 2170 is qualified. But it isn't necessarily competitive, especially in the international pool.

I messed up a huge part of the essay, so I'm retaking the SAT I in October. If i manage to raise the score above 2250, would that make a huge difference on my chances?

It is fairly easy to mess up the essay in SAT even for someone whose native language is English. Improve your SAT score will certainly help, but your score is fine for a student of English as a second language.

the fact that you won't be asking for financial aid already puts odds a little more in your favour.

all the best and i hope you get into your first choice!
