Help (Urgent) Drop Out?

Life happens.. when all know that.

What is done is done, so I won't go into that. However, essentially the situation is, I am practically failing all my classes, and will be lucky to pull up to C's and maybe B's..

I really want to put these classes behind me as I am already behind, but looking at a <3.00 GPA is very scary.

I have no idea what to do, and if I drop out i am homeless. Please help I am scared and have been in a state of shock and panic for the past two - three weeks as I have been finishing up midterms.

Academic advisors don't see to have any recommendations.

(please move this to the appropriate section if necessary).

Stop and take 3 slow breaths. Panic never helps.

Have you spoken to your teachers?
Do you have a sense of why you are struggling?
What does practically failing mean?
What did you ask the academic advisors? What did they tell you specifically?

Have you spoken to your teachers?
–sort of. most don’t do any grade replacements or drops. so grade is set.

Do you have a sense of why you are struggling?
–yes.

What does practically failing mean?
–60s-70s on all my midterms. low credit on philosophy quizzes. missed math quizzes and homeworks.
–30 minutes - discrete math midterm (probably <60 average in there).

What did you ask the academic advisors? What did they tell you specifically?
–nothing. the advisors only tell you the policies. (if you want to withdraw, then this…)

my schedule

junior

discrete math

calc 3

organic 1

social justice

biopsychology

abnormal psychology

As you see, many are freshman (calc 3), and sophomore courses (orgo). Thus, I want to get those behind me, and feel like i NEED to take them for a degree. otherwise, if i drop out AGAIN this semester, then i am left with just psychology, as I can’t do calc and discrete over at this point in my academic career.

Are you taking 6 courses? That seems like a huge amount. What is the normal load per semester at your school? My son is taking 4 courses and he’s very busy with that load. Is it possible that you overloaded yourself with classes? It seems that dropping a class or two might help alot. What do you think?

Why are you taking the various classes. Are you a psych major? Are those classes required for your major? The other students in discrete math may have had a lot more math than you going into the class, putting you at a relative disadvantage.

In many schools, there is a big curve on tests. Do you know what your midterm grades actually are?I would definitely clarify the situation by speaking to each teacher. Find out your grade. Find out what ideas the professor has for you. Find out if there is tutoring for your specific classes and also anyway for you to replace missing grades. After speaking frankly with each professor, you will have a clearer idea of where you stand. Would you also consider talking to the dean of students, or a counselor about your situation?

If you feel comfortable telling what is causing you to struggle, you would likely get some reasonable ideas from CC folks.

Drop a class. Sacrifice a pawn for the good of the group.

6 is a lot.

Don’t be afraid to redo it later. You can do calc 3 at a community college or something. Does ur college offer summer sesssions?

I would suggest dropping the classes that you can replicate at another school- ie, calc and maybe abnormal psychology. You can take those over at a local state school during the summer-- summer term classes tend to be easier, which would help as abnormal psych is notoriously hard. Concentrate on 4 classes now and work on those, and redo the other two later. If you can’t drop those classes, you can also talk to your registrar or even the dean to see if they will give a least a W or WF and make it up another semester/summer.
