Help us help you find the right school :)

Many of us enjoy helping those who are looking for school suggestions or aid/merit suggestions. But, we can't effectively help you if your post only says things like... "I need a safety," or "I have no idea where to apply," or "I need schools that give generous financial aid," or "I need a school that gives merit money."

We need more info! :)

Tell us...

Your stats....GPA weighted/UW - ACT scores - SAT scores (including M, CR, W, breakdown) - Sat II scores.

What your likely major will be.

Difficulty of high school coursework

AP classes taken - scores

Your ECs and "hooks"

What is your home state.

What type of school you like...small, large, public, private, rah rah spirit, Greeks, party, rural, big city, LAC, religious, no religious, etc.

Any weather restrictions (such as: no snow)

How much is the family EFC (Expected Family Contribution).
Here's an EFC Calculator that is just an estimation... FinAid | Calculators | Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Financial Aid

How much can your parents contribute each year (don't guess, ask them for a $$$ amount. You need to know if your parents can meet their EFC. Also, make sure they know how much private and public universities cost these days for tuition, room, board, books, fees, etc. Roughly $25k/yr for in-state public; $40k/yr OOS public; $50k/yr private).

If you're an International student, please state so; especially if you'll be needing financial aid. Very few schools can meet "100% need" of lower income internationals.

I'm sure others can think of other info that would make suggestions more meaningful.

:)

anyone have any other thoughts?

bump…bump…

Also, please do not ask questions that you can answer yourself by using internet. Recent examples were a question on which state schools have an accounting major and how many years it takes to get a pharmacy degree.

Actually, the confusion over pharmacy degrees is understandable…there are at least 3 different types of programs each with different requirements!

Those interested in the performance and creative arts are best served in the discipline specific forums. There are many nuances to these types of admits, and oft times the normal parameters of gpa’s, test scores, and even merit/talent monies do not necessarily apply.

There is a major difference between the type of program required to develop the skill sets for a professional career discipline than the needs for a participatory, secondary for avocational pursuit. Programs that fit differing goals don’t always overlap.

When considering whether to submit an arts related supplement, please use the search function. Much has been written here already. A small talent may be worth much at a specific program, and yet an above average talent may not mean anything at an Ivy (like) program.

Male/female? Can make a difference at schools with lopsided enrollments.

Distance in miles/hours you’re willing to travel from home (and please specify whether that must be by car). Nice idea for a thread!
