My school has a cap of 2 AP classes per year. I’m having trouble deciding which APs to do in the next two years because I have 5 in mind but can only fit in 4 of them. The 5 are: AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics 1, AP Stats, and AP Calc AB
I am thinking of possibly doing these classes (these are only math and sciences)
Junior year:
Advanced Precalc
AP Bio (I’ve taken regular Bio)
AP Chem (I’m currently in Honors Chem)
Senior year:
AP Calc AB
AP Stats
Honors Physics (This would be my first physics class)
So here I’ve replaced AP Physics 1 with Honors Physics since AP Calc AB and AP Stats reach the 2 APs cap. Do you think that is an ok move? If not, do you have any suggestions about how to move things around? Should I do AP Physics 1 and take out one of the other APs instead or move it to Junior year?
I would be careful loading up with two science classes. I would consider moving Stats to junior year and taking one AP science in junior and senior year. I would recommend
Junior:
Pre Calc
AP Stats
AP Bio/Chem/Physics
Senior:
AP Calc
AP Bio/Chem/Physics
Something else but not a lab science
I would suggest taking Physics as one of the classes.
^^ I disagree. I took AP Bio AND Ap Chem as a junior and I did really well in both classes and had pre calc honors. The main decision is up to you and your schedule.
Hint: If you’re gonna be calc (even pre cal) its mighty useful if you go with ap physics too because they’re both parallel courses in terms of math.
I would recommend the same thing your dean did - and since your school offers the option of honors physics take it since it it allows you to take AP Bio and calculus (you’ll get an introduction to all the physics topics you’ll study in college. AP physics 1 will be a thorough study of fewer topics m typically studied in your first semester in college. )
If you think you’re going into CS or Engineering, then AP CS is indeed more useful than AP Bio.
