Help Where to Apply!

Alright I have no idea what schools I should apply to, NO idea. I am submitting an early action app. to Harvard for the hell of it because it is a life long dream-- but I am aware my chances are slim to none there. So when I get my rejection in december I have NO CLUE where to apply next! here are my creds:

GPA:3.7 (unweighted)

Rank: top 3%

APs: world history, us history, european history (I started this class at my school and currently take it as an ind. study), chemistry, physics, calculus, english lit.

SAT: math-630 verbal- 670 writing-700 overall: 2000, btw. when I took the SAT I was unable to study AT ALL so when I retake it next month I believe I will get a 2100+ based on practice tests.

EC's
Guitar lessons: 12 years

co-founder/president of math club

Missionaries of Charity Women and Children's shelter since 10th grade

International High School Mission fundraising and went on humanitarian aid trip to Guatemala with organization

Local Theater: have had leads in numerous theaters and shows as well as many reviews

Student representative to Paideia Society (went on scholarship to take class in Greece)

NHS

Frehsman Sophomore and Junior Academic Achievement Awards

Honor roll all terms

classes at Boston College and Cape Cod Community

Jobs Bussing tables/hostessing, babysitting, and dog-walking (sounds cheesy but I walk this damn dog 3X a day for an old guy)

One of three selected from school to particpate in NCTE writing competition (awaiting results)

Poem and Essay selected to be published by Creative Communications

Magna Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum laude on National Latin exams

House A Award

Okay that's it for those. I am from the New England area and from a VERY low-icome family, so finances are kind of important when looking at schools. I just don't know where to begin, I'd love to go ivy but I'm also realisitc, however I think I am above state school material. Help please any suggestion??

bump...................

Amherst perhaps?

Amherst is a great school, but kind of a reach. Only one student last year got accepted from my school but he was also accepted by Harvard Yale and every other ivy he applied to (went to Harvard). I may apply there for the hell of it too though

bumpbumpbump

somehow I find I am the only one who responds to my own posts. Okay here's a list of places I may consider: Wesleyan, Wellesley, Smith, Brandeis, Williams and Mary, Rice, Bryn Mawr,UMASS-Amherst, Brown, Swarthmore, UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill, Pomona?, BC, BU, Bates, Tufts and Wheaton (Ma.)...I can't really think of any more right now. Am I generally aiming too high, too low? I just don't have an objective viewpoint of myself and of course my family and friends can't give it to me straight either. HELP!

wow, 3.7gpa and you're in the top 3%??? either your high school isnt very competitive or you have serious grade deflation (at my high school, if you had a 3.9 you were out of the top 10%)

my school is actually competitive-- and really big. We have 461 kids in my class...I'm part of a small elite of students who take all Ap's offered (I have taken more than any other student at my school right now) and compete for the top spot. We have quite a few 4.0s, but my tough classes put me ahead of them in class rank.

unfortunately, a top 3% rank and a 2000 sat score doesnt go well together. It shows that your classes might not be very competitive and you are therefore easily scoring high (negating your class rank). At some schools, a 3.7 gpa would barely make the top 10%. I would try to shoot for at least a 2150 (at the very least) before you apply to any higher end colleges. A few of the colleges (Brown, Tufts) are reaches with your current stats.
