They are all great schools and some are very hard to get into. Do your research – visit all their websites to find out what kind of training they provide, what their philosophy is, cost location, etc. You have several UK schools – are you ready to live abroad? What about cost, financial aid, etc. Go to any events in your area that these schools come to – college fairs like NACAC. Are you looking for a BA or BFA? Research, research, research!

Are you interest in acting, or MT or both? Many of the schools on your list will allow you to apply/audition for both -some ask you to specify. As astute mentions, the schools on your list are all artistic reach skills with admission rates under 10%. You need to think about some safeties. The only one I see is BW if you are applying for acting - that is a non audition program. It is not as highly regarded as their BM in MT. All the schools on your list provide excellent training, but in very different ways. As you research (and you need to research) you need to think about what YOU want in a program, and then see which schools match up. My D is sophomore acting major at NYU, I would be happy to answer any questions you have about that program

You have quite a range here. For some colleges you must gain admittance academically before they will consider you for the dramatic arts programs. You may want to research that.

A school like Carnegie Mellon only takes about 8-10 males and 8-10 females. Pretty stiff competition.

Have you visited any of these colleges? Many times a simple campus tour can help you decide if a school is right for you.

Some schools do not let freshmen audition for shows. Does that matter to you?

Does cost matter? Perhaps a discussion with your parents about the cost of each school (in state/out of state, costs to travel home during breaks) will help you cut down this list.

When my daughter was looking at theatre programs she also wanted a college that had some musical theatre opportunities and a great film school (for a chance to appear in student films). She wanted a school that had a reputation for alumni connections. Her college also funds independent student productions. Those combined with school of drama productions gave her quite a range of things to audition for. Her school is not on your list (west coast) but some of these schools will have more productions or a chance for students to produce their own shows. Others will not.

Look at the current season of shows. If you can, attend a show. I cannot emphasize how valuable that could be for you. Look at the types of shows those schools have produced for the last couple seasons.

Digging a bit deeper into individual schools and how they fit YOU will help whittle down the list.

Also, I should mention that when you audition many will interview you as well. You need to know their program. They want to know what YOU will bring to their program. What makes you special? What skills do you possess that will be a great addition to their program? You’ve got to shine in the interview as well as the audition so do your homework.

Oh, and it could be one of the US colleges offers a study abroad semester at one of the English schools on your list which could be especially appealing to you.

Good luck with your research and break a leg!

This is a bit of a strange list without knowing more about what you are interested in. You have some schools like Boston Conservatory that I believe is only MT. And then you have several UK schools that I believe are largely drama training only. You have BAs on the list like Muhlenberg that could theoretically be a safety for someone with high academics and not for others. Tell us more about you and people might be able to help you more with pointing to schools that fit your interests.

Do you want to become an early theatre specialist? Or would you also be interested in fields such as classics, philosophy, religious studies, government, literature, history, geology and astronomy? Determining this will help you refine your list.
