Please advise the plus and minus on the following halls for freshman son.
Baldwin - Crawford - Schultz - Walker Hall and Walker Annex

He wants Ravine Hall because he stayed there an a visit, but it is the farthest and he will never get to a meal. I like Walker Hall and Annex Hall because he can roll downstairs and eat at Brooks.

Selection starts tomorrow. Thanks

Personally I would stay away from Ravine as a freshman since it is so far from everything. As a student, I lived in Walker Annex freshman year and found this a great location. I lived in Shultz other years and enjoyed this too. I think any of the other choices would beat Ravine.

Wait . . . incoming freshman are selecting housing? Before the class is even composed? I know some colleges give priority to those who decide early, but Allegheny didn’t mention ANY of that when we visited for Trustee Weekend.

Housing choices for freshmen started online yesterday. All upperclassmen chose their housing in March. I think my son likes Ravine because it is far away and it feels like you aren’t right in the fray of everything. He currently commutes to a community college while still in high school under the state PSEOP program. The actual ravine is cool to hike through to I guess.

Sorry, I just feel like I’m missing something. The quote above is from the Allegheny website. Is your son CURRENTLY an Allegheny freshman, or is he still in high school?

You fill out the housing request starting April 1st. Then they work on it and give you what your actual assignment is during the summer. I was just saying that you can get in your request starting April 1st. I would assume that those that get their requests in early get consideration for first choice, but maybe they just start feeding data in and work on the selections after the June 1st deadline. At least we can think that we did our best to get his choice.

Housing requests begin before May 1st’s deadline?

I didn’t know this and like someone else said, they didn’t squeak a word of that during the Trustee’s weekend. My daughter and I were going to go back up to take a better look at the dorms in two weekends, thinking we had time, but obviously we’re wrong.

Edit: I just called them. As you accept and they recieve your payment, then this option becomes available to you.

My DD just accepted online last night and I’m mailing out the check today. We’ll get a package that has all that in there. If you didn’t get one after accepting/paying the deposit? I’d call admissions.
