Help with future UC transfer decision

Hi all,
So I'm currently a first year student at a CC under a Biology major. I plan on transferring to (in order of priority) UCLA, UCI, or UCSD. I have been really firm on keeping my projected career as a Physical Therapist.

I guess my main question is should I be looking at a different major at these schools besides Biology that would better prepare me for such a career?

Thank you!

I’m not sure many people would be able to answer that here unless they specifically plan to go into Physical Therapy. Maybe you should do some more research on what the requirements are for PT school. I know there’s usually some crossover with the biology curriculum and that they tend to look for courses like anatomy, physiology, some general biology, chemistry, etc. A biology major seems most relevant, but you wouldn’t necessarily have to major in just General Biology. There are more specialized majors like Human Biology or Physiology, things along those lines that may be slightly more relevant to physical therapy.

Or you may even be able to take a completely unrelated major. Usually most professional schools only require that you complete a certain core curriculum and take certain GREs/admissions exams for entrance. Rarely is there an absolute major that you have to take to get into a professional school.

I understand what you’re saying. You are correct that there is no specific major I have to take for that career, rather just the pre-reqs to get into the grad school. As UCLA is the main college that I would like to transfer to, they do have Human Bio, Physiological Sciences, and Biology majors so that is good news for my options, but I just am not sure which one would best “suite” me with that career path in mind. Hopefully someone with experience in PT drops by:P

Regardless, thank you for your help!

In case no one happens to drop by with experience in applying to PT schools. Just be aware that most majors at UCLA have their own websites and a simple google search of that major at UCLA should send you to the department website where it will list the curriculum for that major. If you also just do a little more research to find some PT schools you may be interested in post undegrad, you should be able to cross reference that major curriculum with what PT schools are generally looking for.

It seems that Physics, Anatomy/Physiology, General Chem, Psychology, Statistics are all pretty common requirements. Most of those you’re going to satisfy before you even transfer to a UC, in CC. The rest don’t seem that specific for any particular major. It seems like any Biology, or maybe even Psych, major should suffice.
