Help with insomnia?

I have always been a light sleeper and adjusting to college isn’t easy. I’m going to bed on time and my classes are late in morning so I can sleep in. I should be getting enough sleep but I feel like I take tremendous amounts of time to fall asleep, wake up too early, and don’t fall into deep sleep. I’m always yawning and falling asleep in class and while it doesn’t make me feel dumber, it takes away my ability to focus.

I used to have an issue where my roommate sleeps with light and tv on but that got resolved. I had another issue where bright morning light would wake me up at like 6 but I got a curtain although the curtain doesn’t cover enough of the light.

Anyone have any suggestions?

So you still have an issue with the curtain? Try a black-out curtain.

Yes definitely consider investing in a blackout curtain. Or you could try using an eye mask as well. Earplugs are also super helpful as well. I sleep with them in occasionally and it is great how much sound they block out.

Some additional tips to consider:

  1. get one of those sleeping masks and wear it to bed
  2. sleep with ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones
  3. limit screen time right before you go to bed. Sometimes this is easier said than done though!
  4. download some sort of white noise or relaxation music to your smart phone and use it to put your brain in the right state of mind when you lay down to go to bed.
